As a Senior Aerospace Design Engineer, you and your team will be responsible for the design and certification of our next-generation GB2 aircraft. You will design both conventional and complex aviation structures, components, and systems across production and development programs. This role also includes authoring certification reports, test plans, and engineering analyses in accordance with 14 CFR Part 23.
The ideal candidate will have experience within the aviation industry, specifically designing small-scale fixed-wing aircraft under Part 23 certification standards, and will be familiar with FAA certification processes. The most successful candidates will have contributed across multiple phases of the aircraft lifecycle and understand how structures, systems, and certification requirements interact at the aircraft level.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead the design of components, sub-assemblies, and systems for aircraft, including concept development, detailed design, validation of assumptions and data, testing support, and design approval.
- Develop, author, and maintain certification programs, test plans, analyses, and compliance reports according to FAA requirements
- Coordinate with the Aircraft Certification Office (ACO) on major change approvals, providing technical support and regular status updates to Lead and Principal Engineers.
- Maintain engineering change records and support design reviews and audits in preparation for certification activity.
- Support FAA and foreign regulatory authorities in type certificate and validation activities.
- Using SolidWorks to create, modify, and update engineering drawings for both individual components and large, complex assemblies
- Collaborate with the production team to improve product quality, production efficiency, and workplace safety.
- Work with DERs/DARs to collaborate certification efforts
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with 14 CFR Part 23 certification standards and interfacing with the FAA for small, fixed-wing aircraft.
- 5 years of design experience in one or more aviation-related areas (e.g., aircraft, airframe, aeronautics, aerobatics, fixed-wing airplanes).
- Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software such as SolidWorks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Seven or more years of design experience in one or more aviation-related areas.
- Experience with composite aircraft design and fabrication.
- Prior experience working for a general aviation OEM.
- Familiarity with the FAA certification process; experience working within an Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) environment is preferred.
