General Description 

The purpose of this class is to support the implementation, maintenance, and overall systems management of the County’s Domain Services and computing strategy. 


Duties and Responsibilities 

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.  Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. 

  • Support the Data Centers’ server infrastructure, including installation, configuration and maintenance. 
  • Monitor server performance, health, and availability, ensuring minimal downtime. 
  • Support end-user requests related to server access and system functionality. 
  • Assist with implementing and maintain server security policies, including managing updates and patches according to the maintenance schedule. 
  • Utilize system monitoring tools to track performance and proactively identify potential issues. 
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory, including users, computers, groups and organizational units. 
  • Perform administrative tasks for Microsoft 365, such as managing user accounts, license allocation and mailbox configurations. 
  • Assist with Azure AD integration and identity management tasks. 
  • First-level troubleshooting of Microsoft 365-related issues, escalating as necessary. 
  • Support VMWare vSphere/ESXi environments by monitoring virtual machines and performing basic configuration tasks. 
  • Assist in managing and monitoring storage solutions to ensure data integrity and optimal performance. 
  • Perform regular checks on backup systems to ensure scheduled tasks completion. 
  • Assist in deploying patches, updates, and software installation across the server environment. 
  • Document issues, solutions, and best practices to contribute to the department knowledgebase. 
  • Work closely with Directory Services Engineers and other IT divisions and team so ensure efficient operations. 
  • Participate in projects to enhance system capabilities and improve processes. 
  • Performs related work as assigned. 
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 
  • Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • Proficiency in Windows Server administration and Active Directory management. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Azure AD essential support. 
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, particularly VMWare vSphere/ESXi. 
  • Understanding of domain and networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, print servers) and storage systems. 
  • Knowledge of CMDLET and CMD scripting for task automation. 


Physical Demands/Work Environment: 

 Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. 

 Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. 

 The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects. 

The work is typically performed in an office.  

Emergency Preparedness Tier Level:  3 

 

Special Certifications and Licenses: 

  • Preferred: Microsoft certifications in Azure Fundamentals, MCSA Win10, MCSA 365 or similar. 
  • Valid TX Driver’s License 
  • Must maintain CJIS compliance
