General Description
The purpose of this class is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment to assist in the construction, repair and maintenance of county streets, drainage systems, beaches, and related infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Operates and maintains road paving construction equipment, including motor graders, rollers, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, tandem dump trucks, backhoes, water trucks, paving machines, reclaimers, dozers, and excavators.
- Operate a haul truck, including loading, tying down, and transporting equipment.
- Patches roadways, cuts brush, and picks up and disposes of trash and brush.
- Loads and unloads large amounts and weights of materials and debris to and from trucks.
- Drives a medium-sized truck to transport personnel, supplies, and materials.
- May flag traffic as needed.
- May perform housekeeping and facilities maintenance functions.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Requires two years of experience operating heavy equipment in the construction, maintenance or repairs of roadways, bridges, and operating heavy and light construction equipment or closely related experience.
