Position Overviews
The Library is seeking a part-time Library Clerk to join our team under the supervision of the Library Director. This position is responsible for assisting with tasks in the Circulation and Reference areas and the Children’s Department to ensure smooth library operations. The position will work 25 hours per week. Tuesdays 8:30am-2:00pm, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:30am-3:00pm, and Saturdays 8:30am-3:00pm.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist and participate in the organization, planning, and implementation of children and family centric programs and events. These programs will be both in-person and off-site.
- Use library technology on a daily basis, including the automated circulation system, e-book devices, and public computers.
- Provide prompt, courteous, and direct assistance to patrons regarding the use of library materials, equipment, and services.
- Maintain a clean and organized facility, including cleaning shelves, furniture, and bathrooms.
- Create and maintain library accounts, reconcile fines, and circulate materials.
- Efficiently operate office equipment such as telephones, copiers, printers, and fax machines.
- Present a positive, unbiased, and professional role model by maintaining a pleasant attitude, refraining from using profanity, and keeping personal beliefs (religious, political, or otherwise) to oneself.
- Ensure the confidentiality of customer and employee records and respect individuals' privacy and rights.
- Adhere to and enforce all library and county policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public, peers, and supervisors.
- Assist with other duties as assigned for the smooth operation of the library, including performing daily opening and closing procedures, serving patrons of all ages, shelf reading, weeding, and routine shelving.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, or currently enrolled as a High School student
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software, various Internet browsers, and email platforms
- Physical stamina to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods, and the ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds
- Strong ability to positively represent the library and contribute to a professional work environment
Other Desired Skills/ Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, vision, and writing skills
- Self-starter with an innate drive to complete projects and the ability to handle multiple tasks and interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner
- Strong customer service skills with a focus on community building
- Knowledge of standard library procedures, practices, and methods
