Job Title: Life Enrichment Director

Reports To: Executive Director

Summary: The Life Enrichment Director assumes administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for the provision of a program of activities designed to meet the interests and enhance the functional abilities of each Resident. The Life Enrichment Director is responsible for planning, directing, and carrying out with his/her staff and volunteers a schedule of meaningful activities which reflect resident preferences for social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual desires.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Interviews residents and/or responsible parties in order to obtain pertinent data regarding each resident’s interests, skills, hobbies, capabilities.
  • Develops and provides individual and group activities for residents that reflect interests of Residents, are offered at hours convenient to residents (morning, afternoon, evening, weekend) that appeal to both men and women, take place in a variety of locations and include special seasonal events.
  • Assist Director while Interviewing potential candidates to work as Life Enrichment Coordinators, Life Enrichment Assistants, Flourish Engage Managers, Flourish Engage Coordinators, Flourish Engage Assistants, and Black car Drivers.
  • Supervise and maintain schedules for all activities team members within Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Memory Care. These team members may include several different assistants and coordinators
  • Participates in the development of the department budget. Provides relevant financial information to Director regarding department financial needs and status.
  • Provides a variety of activities which provide social and intellectual stimulation, entertainment, relaxation, physical activity, and an opportunity to express creativity. Makes activities available to all residents, subject to their limitations.
  • Elicits maximum possible involvement from residents. Encourages residents to participate in planning activities and events.
  • Leads and assists staff at group activities. Leads discussions, study groups, planning sessions, crafts, exercise classes, gardening groups, cooking, and baking activities and group games. Coordinates food-oriented activities with the Food and Beverage Department and assists in distribution and clean-up at events.
  • Recruits, orients, and trains volunteers. Acts as liaison between volunteers and staff.
  • Posts a monthly calendar of group activities and keeps calendar up to date, posting changes as far in advance as they are known.
  • Coordinates programs with other departments in the community and interfaces with all personnel as appropriate.
  • Ability to drive the community vehicle to transport residents, including but not limited to providing transportation to local physician or dental offices, trips outside Corso Atlanta for shopping, entertainment, education, and/or appointments.
  • Encourages residents to participate in religious activities of their choice to fulfill their basic spiritual needs, through visits with clergy, attendance at religious services, when possible, spiritual reading materials, etc. Assists residents to celebrate religious holidays of their choosing.
  • Keeps attendance records for group and individual activities. Adds progress notes in residents’ charts as required.
  • Evaluates each resident’s behavior during activities (group and individual) and reports unusual observations to the Resident Care Coordinator.
  • Inventories activity supplies and equipment, maintains same in orderly fashion and plans purchases in advance according to budget.
  • Help organize a welcome committee and resident orientation as necessary.
  • Must be able to cover for staff if unable to come into work.
  • Keeps informed of programs, events, educational opportunities, and tours in the greater Buckhead/Atlanta Area.
  • Assists with the development and provision of training and orientation programs for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensures resident safety during all activities whether inside or outside the community complying with community safety regulations, policies, and any regulatory requirements.
  • Gathers resident feedback and assess satisfaction levels with scheduled programming and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Support sales and marketing functions, e.g., provide community tours, participate in community outreach, networking, and community sales events.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or two to three years of related experience and/or training working in the senior living population; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exhibit good time management and organization skills.
  • Possess the ability to handle complex issues.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Express compassion for residents, associate and guests on a consistent basis.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Is willing to work flexible hours.

Working Conditions: Specific physical requirements are outlined in accordance with the American Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)

  • Requires interaction with co-workers, residents or vendors
  • Occasional weekend, evening or night work if needed to ensure shift coverage.
  • On-Call on an as needed basis
  • 100% time spent on site in community setting
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and infections
  • Exposure to latex
  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens
  • Subject to injury from falls, burns, odors, or cuts from equipment
