Description of Position:
The Senior Living Driver/ Activities Assistant is responsible for safely transporting residents to and from medical appointments, shopping trips, social outings, and community events. This role ensures residents experience safe, timely, and courteous transportation while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service.
Responsibilities of the Driver/Activities Assistant:
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles in compliance with all local, state, and federal traffic laws
- Transport residents to medical appointments, errands, recreational activities, and special events
- Assist residents with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including those using walkers, wheelchairs, or other mobility aids
- Secure wheelchairs and mobility devices properly before transport
- Maintain accurate transportation logs and schedules
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs promptly
- Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and in good working condition
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff
- Provide friendly, respectful, and patient customer service at all times
- Follow all community safety policies and emergency procedures
- Experience with transporting
- Assist in the implementation of daily activities within the community guidelines and rules and regulations to promote resident well-being. At a minimum, activities must include group social activities, outdoor activities, spiritual programs, outreach programs, arts and crafts, exercise, music and drama, educational opportunities, and one-on-one interactions.
- Take photos and update company social media pages.
- Assist with volunteer and outreach programs.
- Ensure that the policies and procedures are effective and enforced to support the health and safety of the residents.
- Monitor resident activity, functional status, psychosocial status, taking action as required to promote resident well-being.
- Document resident status change and communicate changes to Activities Coordinator and Resident Care Coordinator.
- Keep activity areas clean and organized.
- Review and utilize the Community’s disaster preparedness plan for staff and residents to follow in case of fire, explosion, natural disaster, or other emergency, including interruption of electrical power supply, gas-heating supply and water supply.
- Attend required staff meetings and complete all necessary in-service training.
- Read all shift change acknowledgement notes.
- Review and follow the employee handbook guidelines, including dress code, conduct, scheduling, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the Activities Director and Coordinator.
Position Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Previous professional driving experience preferred
- Experience working with seniors or in healthcare/community settings preferred
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques
- Ability to assist residents with mobility needs
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have an acceptable criminal background record check.
- Must provide driving history from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Must immediately report any cited or ticketed driving infractions.
- CDL license not required.
- Must keep a current certification in emergency first aid and CPR.
- Must have a clear tuberculosis screening upon hire to assure that the employee is free of diseases communicable within the scope of employment.
- Must have a physical examination prior to employment and as required by the Community after an injury or illness to assure that the employee is physically qualified to work.
- Must be able to bend/stoop, climb, reach above shoulder level, kneel, balance, push, pull, squat, crouch, lift, carry, and move up to one hundred (100) pounds.
- Must have training in emergency evacuation procedures, medical and social needs of the residents, resident’s rights, abuse and neglect reporting, infection control, medication assistance, dementia, and courses relevant to the job duties.
- Must obtain at least twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education the first year and sixteen(16) hours of continuing education courses each year thereafter.
- Must attend mandatory staff meetings.
- Employee must not be under the influence of alcohol or other substances while engaged in any work-related activity on behalf of the Community.
- Employee must wear a name tag at all times while on the property or engaged in any work- related activity on behalf of the Community.
- Able to work various schedules, including weekends, as needed.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must have a current valid driver’s license in the state of Georgia and clean MVR
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be knowledgeable of all safety precautions and comply with safety procedures
- Ability to react calmly in emergency situations and be considerate
- Ability to operate a chair lift and secure regular and mechanical wheelchairs and scooters
