What are the responsibilities and job description for the MIXING LAB TECHNICIAN position at Galen Medical Group Pc?
- Accurately prepare allergenic extracts according to physician prescriptions and established protocols.
- Follow detailed formulas and mixing guidelines to create custom vials for individual patients.
- Maintain sterile techniques throughout the mixing process to prevent contamination.
- Ensure that all allergen extracts are labeled correctly and include essential information, such as expiration dates, concentrations, and the specific allergens used.
- Follow regulatory requirements, including USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines for sterile compounding.
- Perform quality control measures to verify the accuracy and safety of the mixtures.
- Monitor and document temperature and environmental conditions in the laboratory to ensure product stability.
- Maintain accurate records of all allergens mixed and dispensed, including lot numbers, expiration dates, and vial concentrations.
- Update patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or other system used by the clinic, ensuring all treatments are properly logged.
- Review patient records and insurance benefits to ensure eligibility for immunotherapy treatment.
- Monitor stock levels of allergenic extracts, vials, syringes, and other supplies.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and ensure that all materials are within their expiration dates.
- Clean and disinfect mixing areas, equipment, and surfaces in compliance with clinic protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Follow proper disposal methods for biohazardous waste and expired materials.
- Ensure that all equipment used in the mixing process is properly maintained and calibrated to ensure accuracy.
- Work closely with the allergy team, including physicians, nurses, other technicians, and the Allergy Mixing Lab Supervisor, to ensure the timely preparation of allergenic extracts for patients.
- Communicate any issues related to patient prescriptions, mixing errors, or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel, including the Allergy Mixing Lab Supervisor.
- Stay informed of applicable regulations, guidelines, and best practices related to allergy extract mixing and sterile compounding.
- Participate in required continuing education and training to maintain certification.
- Follow all local, state, and federal regulations regarding sterile compounding and allergen preparation, and promptly report any observed noncompliance or concerns to the supervisor or manager.
- Provide patient education on allergy management and immunotherapy processes when necessary.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, and restocking supplies as needed.
- Assist with training new staff members or interns as needed.
- Process all billing for immunotherapy preparation and review to ensure it is completed and submitted appropriately.

- Must adhere to HIPAA guidelines at all times in order to maintain the highest level of patient confidentiality.
- Comply with all organization policies and procedures.

- Attend regular staff meetings and in-service training sessions as directed.
- Consistently demonstrate the value of the team concept.

- Proficiency in allergy extract mixing and immunotherapy protocols
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety and regulatory standards
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Must successfully complete gloved fingertip and thumb sampling and media fill test once yearly to ensure aseptic technique and contamination control.
- Understanding of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations and compliance.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards relevant to laboratory settings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of USP 797 guidelines for compounding sterile preparations, including aseptic technique, environmental monitoring, and quality assurance practices.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification is required.
- Successful completion of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology’s Allergenic Extract Preparation Competency Assessment is required annually.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of medical assisting experience required.
- 1 or more years of relevant clinical allergy experience preferred.
- Experience performing allergy extract mixing and immunotherapy protocols.
