Position Overview:The Senior Web Application Developer is responsible for leading the design, development, maintenance, and support of the college’s custom applications and integration initiatives. This role provides technical leadership across architecture, backend and frontend development, and database design while ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing systems. The Senior Developer will drive best practices, mentor team members, and evaluate and implement modern technologies aligned with Galen’s strategic initiatives. This role works closely with the Director of App Services & Data Analysis, Product Managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business and user needs. The Senior Developer will also collaborate with the Galen Center for Professional Development.
Position Responsibilities
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 5–8 years of professional web/software development experience. Strong server-side development experience (PHP and/or C# .NET Core preferred). Proven experience designing scalable architectures and distributed systems. Experience leading or mentoring development teams or projects. Experience with system integration, API design, and microservices architecture preferred. Previous experience in higher education or healthcare environments is a plus. Strong frontend development experience with Angular or similar modern frameworks. Special Qualifications: Advanced knowledge of database design, optimization, and management (SQL/relational systems). Strong proficiency in frontend technologies (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript). Experience with modern development tools (GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, project management tools). Solid understanding of application security, authentication, and data protection practices. Experience with web architecture, system scalability, and performance tuning. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Highly organized, self-driven, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a team environment. Additional Information Example projects at Galen include developing data-driven applications for student and staff systems. - Lead backend and full stack development efforts for Galen College and affiliated organizations.
- Architect and design scalable, maintainable web applications using modern design patterns (MVC and beyond).
- Provide technical leadership in system architecture, database design, and application integration.
- Design, develop, and maintain robust APIs and services for internal and external system integrations.
- Oversee and contribute to frontend development using modern frameworks.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies, frameworks, and tools to improve development efficiency and system performance.
- Establish and enforce coding standards, development best practices, and secure coding guidelines.
- Lead system upgrades, migrations, and modernization efforts, including legacy system refactoring.
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 application support; guide resolution of complex technical issues and mentor others in support processes.
- Manage and prioritize multiple development initiatives, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Design and maintain disaster recovery, performance optimization, and system monitoring strategies.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and training materials.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Contribute to DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, version control strategies, and deployment automation.
- Ensure application security, data integrity, and compliance with relevant standards and policies.
