Job Summary:
Galaxy Technologies is seeking a skilled Assembly Mechanic to perform precision assembly, fabrication, and installation of tooling, fixtures, and aerospace components. This position requires the ability to read engineering drawings, operate precision measuring equipment, and assemble complex mechanical structures while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards. The Assembly Mechanic works independently and collaboratively to support production schedules and deliver high-quality products to customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble tooling, fixtures, weldments, and aerospace components according to engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Lay out, fit, drill, ream, countersink, and install components using close-tolerance techniques.
- Install mechanical fasteners including solid rivets, blind rivets, Hi-Loks, Jo-Bolts, CherryMAX fasteners, bolts, and other hardware as required.
- Fabricate and fit metal components using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and shop equipment.
- Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, tape measures, and scales.
- Perform mechanical assembly, adjustment, and alignment of tooling and assemblies.
- Identify and report quality issues or discrepancies to supervision.
- Perform routine maintenance and proper care of assigned tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Follow Galaxy Technologies' Quality Management System (QMS), safety procedures, and company policies.
- Assist with troubleshooting assembly issues and recommend process improvements.
- Support other departments as needed to meet production schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of mechanical assembly, aircraft sheet metal, tooling, fabrication, or related manufacturing experience.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Experience performing precision drilling, reaming, countersinking, and component fitting.
- Proficiency using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and tape measures.
- Experience safely operating pneumatic tools, hand tools, and power tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical assembly techniques and close-tolerance work.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and measurements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and perform standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of aircraft sheet metal, aerospace manufacturing, tooling, or precision assembly experience.
- Experience working with aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, Inconel, composites, or other aerospace materials.
- Experience installing aerospace fasteners including Hi-Loks, Jo-Bolts, and CherryMAX fasteners.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience or certification.
- Familiarity with AS9100 or other aerospace quality standards.
- Experience in a tooling, aerospace manufacturing, or fabrication environment.
Salary : $20 - $26
