Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is looking for an enthusiastic, well-qualified individual to fill the Human Systemes UX Specialist position. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and talented group of individuals committed to driving success.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, evaluating, and improving user interfaces, workflows, and human-system interactions that support Battle Management, Command and Control (BMC2) operations. This role ensures that operators can rapidly interpret data, make timely decisions, and effectively manage multi-domain missions involving air, missile defense, and space operations.
The specialist works closely with operators, engineers, mission analysts, and designers to translate mission needs into intuitive displays, controls, and decision-support tools that enhance situational awareness and reduce cognitive load during time-sensitive operations.
Key Responsibilities
The Human Systems UX Specialist will:
· Analyze operator workflows, cognitive demands, mission tasks, and decision-making processes for Space Development Agency’s
· Design intuitive UIs, visualizations, alerts, and human-machine interfaces tailored for BMC2 operations; develop wireframes, prototypes, and interaction models
· Conduct user research, interviews, usability studies, and evaluations; observe real-time missions and exercises to refine UX designs
· Develop and execute human factors test plans to assess usability, workload, and operator performance
· Collaborate with developers, engineers, operators, and analysts to integrate UX requirements into system design and mission workflows
· Ensure UI/UX designs align with sensor data, decision-support tools, tactical displays, and multi-domain visualization needs
· Produce UX specifications, style guides, and human-systems integration documentation; ensure compliance with MIL-STD-1472 and accessibility standards
· Support UX portions of test events, evaluations, and user acceptance activities
Required Skills & Experience
The Human Systems UX Specialist must have:
- Active TS/SCI or SAP/SAR eligibility
- 5–10 years of UX design, human factors engineering, human-systems integration (HSI), or UI/UX research experience—preferably in DoD, aerospace, BMC2, or mission operations environments
- Experience designing complex operator interfaces, dashboards, and visualizations for time-critical systems
- Strong understanding of cognitive load, workflow analysis, decision-support design, and mission usability considerations
- Familiarity with air/missile defense, space operations, sensor networks, or BMC2 workflows
- Experience with tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure, Miro, or similar UI/UX platforms
- Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, user journeys, and interaction models
- Ability to communicate design concepts to technical and operational teams
- Experience conducting field observations, operator interviews, usability testing, and human factors assessments
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-1472, NASA TLX, and other human factors methodologies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Ability to integrate user-centered design into engineering-heavy, classified, mission-critical environments
- Excellent documentation and presentation skills
Education & Certifications
The Human Systems UX Specialist must meet the following:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, UX/UI Design, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Systems Engineering, or a related field
Preferred
- Master’s degree in human factors, HCI, systems engineering, or related discipline
- Certified Usability Analyst (CUA)
- UX Certification (Nielsen Norman Group, Human Factors International)
- INCOSE ASEP/CSEP (for HSI/system integration work)
- Security (if working in secure/classified environments)

Security Clearance
Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner, and that may include lifting up to thirty pounds, as necessary.
