Position – Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic with Inspection Authorization

Location: Chandler, AZ (CHD)

Compensation: $40.00–$48.00 per hour, based on experience and technician level

We are currently seeking experienced Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics with an active Inspection Authorization to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on flight school and general aviation aircraft.

The A&P Mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, maintaining, documenting, and returning aircraft to service in accordance with AeroGuard company procedures, approved technical data, and all applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on flight school and general aviation aircraft.

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and maintain company aircraft in accordance with approved technical data and applicable FAA regulations.

  • Perform aircraft inspections and make airworthiness determinations within the authority of the mechanic’s A&P license and Inspection Authorization.

  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, servicing, and repairs on aircraft systems and components.

  • Read and interpret maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, engineering drawings, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and other approved technical data.

  • Ensure all assigned work is completed in accordance with company procedures, quality requirements, and regulatory standards.

  • Complete aircraft logbook entries and other required maintenance documentation.

  • Approve and release aircraft for return to service within the authority of the mechanic’s certifications.

  • Ensure compliance with Title 14 CFR Parts 43 and 91.

  • Diagnose airframe, powerplant, electrical, mechanical, and related aircraft discrepancies.

  • Manage assigned workflow and adjust priorities according to flight school operational requirements.

  • Coordinate with maintenance leadership, other technicians, and flight operations personnel.

  • Use applicable shop equipment, test equipment, tools, vehicles, and aircraft as required.

  • Operate company vans, trucks, golf carts, aircraft, and other equipment when authorized and required.

  • Maintain accurate and complete aircraft maintenance records.

  • Maintain a basic set of hand tools necessary to perform assigned aircraft maintenance duties.

  • Keep work areas clean, safe, organized, and free of hazards.

  • Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards.

  • Work assigned shifts based on maintenance and operational requirements.

  • Assist coworkers and identify productive work without requiring continuous direction.

  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Summary of Education, Experience and Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant license required at the time of hire.

  • Active FAA Inspection Authorization required.

  • Minimum of three recent and consecutive years of general aviation maintenance experience as a certificated A&P Mechanic required.

  • Experience maintaining Piper aircraft preferred.

  • Garmin G1000 experience is considered an asset.

  • Basic set of aircraft maintenance hand tools required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of general aviation aircraft maintenance and inspection practices.

  • Knowledge of Title 14 CFR Parts 43 and 91.

  • Ability to independently make airworthiness and return-to-service decisions.

  • Ability to perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance.

  • Ability to troubleshoot airframe, powerplant, electrical, mechanical, and related aircraft discrepancies.

  • Ability to inspect, repair, service, and maintain company aircraft.

  • Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, engineering drawings, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and other approved technical documentation.

  • Ability to complete aircraft logbook entries and accurately document work performed.

  • Ability to release aircraft for return to service within the authority of the mechanic’s certifications.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.

  • Extreme attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and make sound maintenance decisions.

  • Ability to manage workflow and adjust priorities as needed.

  • Ability to remain productive and assist coworkers without continuous supervision.

  • Ability to adapt to changing maintenance priorities and flight school instructions.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to learn and use the Talon RMS computerized maintenance system.

  • Familiarity with general office equipment, aircraft maintenance tools, and shop equipment.

  • Ability to operate company vehicles and aircraft as required.

  • Ability to work different shifts based on operational requirements.

Schedule

  • Full-time.

  • Friday through Sunday.

  • Three 12-hour shifts.

  • Must be flexible and available to work other shifts when required by operational needs.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The employee will work in hangar, ramp, shop, office, simulator, and outdoor aircraft maintenance environments. The position involves extensive exposure to aircraft, flight simulators, shop equipment, tools, solvents, aviation gasoline, noise, and changing outdoor conditions.

The employee may be required to operate general office equipment, company vehicles, shop equipment, aircraft maintenance tools, and aircraft.

The employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in various physical positions.

The employee must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Eligible GAL AeroStaff contract employees may receive:
