GAINSCO is seeking a Manager, Software Development to lead software development teams responsible for delivering high-quality technology solutions. This role provides leadership, technical guidance, and delivery accountability while fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and strong execution. The Manager, Software Development will balance hands-on technical oversight with people leadership, ensuring the team is aligned to business priorities, agile delivery practices, and long-term technology strategy.
What does a Manager, Software Development do at GAINSCO?
- Lead agile software development teams through sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and delivery execution.
- Coach, mentor, and develop software developers through regular feedback, goal setting, and professional development.
- Provide technical guidance on solution design, code quality, architecture alignment, security standards, and development best practices.
- Identify and remove blockers, resolve conflicts, and help teams stay focused on timely, high-quality delivery.
- Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, executives, and IT leaders to communicate progress, risks, priorities, and outcomes.
- Build a team culture focused on accountability, inclusion, collaboration, innovation, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
What is required?
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
Certifications:
- Project management certification, such as PMP, CSM, or SAFe, is preferred.
Experience:
- 7 years of progressive software development experience, including hands-on experience designing, coding, testing, and debugging software.
- 5 years managing software developers in an agile software delivery environment.
- Demonstrated success leading agile development teams and delivering business-critical applications.
- Technical experience with object-oriented programming languages, database development, REST APIs, unit testing frameworks, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience promoting code quality, scalable design, maintainable systems, and modern software development best practices.
- Insurance or financial services industry experience is preferred.
Skills and abilities:
- Strong understanding of Agile principles and delivery frameworks, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teams while balancing strategic direction with tactical execution.
- Strong technical acumen in software engineering practices, modern development frameworks, architecture considerations, and code quality.
- Ability to set priorities, establish performance standards, and make sound trade-offs around speed, quality, and risk.
- Excellent problem-solving, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to influence teams, remove complexity and barriers, and manage change effectively.
- Customer-centric mindset with a focus on delivering reliable, scalable, and business-aligned technology solutions.
