Position Purpose
Gainesville City Schools is looking for a Library Media Specialist to work collaboratively with school administration and staff to develop a space and a program that supports the school curriculum, houses and promotes a rich and diverse collection of print and non-print materials, and presents as a flexible, inviting learning environment for students, staff, and the community.
Essential Functions
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Routine physical activities associated with typical office setting. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities. Vision, hearing and verbal communications are essential functions of this position.

Essential Functions
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators to create and maintain safe, inclusive, respectful environment conducive to learning
- Promote the school library program and literacy initiatives in innovative ways including social media, digital media, and print
- Collaborate with teaching faculty to ensure collection supports instruction and curriculum
- Collaborate with teaching faculty to develop and provide engaging and authentic learning experiences in the media center
- Participate and support curriculum development process
- Ensure equitable access to resources that align with the academic needs and personal interests of students
- Develop, maintain, and manage an up-to-date, culturally relevant collection.
- Collaborate with administration and staff to maintain the school website ensuring that it is accurate, relevant, and engaging for all users
- Manage responsibilities of Media Clerk and student Media Aides
- Provide training and support evaluation and organization or informational resources and technologies
- Collaborate with administrators and teachers to develop learning experiences that integrate existing and emerging technology to engage students and improve outcomes
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Encourage parental and community involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Develop and arrange media center displays.
- Maintain school's website.

- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
- Valid Georgia Professional Certificate in Media Specialist at the Master’s level or higher
