Role Description This is a part time, on-site Assistant Rowing Coach role based in Gainesville, FL. The Assistant Rowing Coach will support daily on-water and land-based practices, including executing the prescribed training plan, leading workouts, supervising athletes, and reinforcing proper rowing technique and safety standards. This role will assist with regatta preparation and logistics, such as equipment setup, lineups, travel coordination, and race day coaching. The coach will help monitor athlete progress, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, inclusion, and sportsmanship. Additional responsibilities may include basic equipment maintenance, communication with athletes, and collaboration with the Head Coach and other staff on program development.
Qualifications
- Experience coaching rowing or competing in rowing at the scholastic, collegiate, or club level, with strong technical knowledge of sweep and/or sculling.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and lead safe, effective practices on the water and on land (erg training, strength and conditioning, and flexibility work).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and support athletes of varied ages, skill levels, and backgrounds.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful team environment and modeling positive behavior, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct.
- Basic boat handling and equipment care skills, with willingness to learn rigging, minor repairs, and boathouse organization.
- Current or obtainable certifications such as CPR/First Aid; USRowing SafeSport, coaching certifications and Florida Boaters Licence.
