What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Director position at Gaines & Associates, PC.?
About Gaines & Associates (GAPC)
GAPC (Gaines & Associates, PC) is a fast-growing CPA–Business Advisory and Consulting firm serving clients nationwide. We offer a collaborative, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment where talented professionals can grow their expertise, make an impact, and build long-term client relationships.
Why This Role Matters
Gaines & Associates, PC (GAPC) is entering a new phase of growth. What began as a boutique CPA firm has become a multidisciplinary financial and advisory platform serving fast-growing entrepreneurial businesses across the U.S. — combining CPA services, CFO advisory, M&A support, business strategy, legal integration, and operational consulting.
We are now building a next-generation tax practice that integrates tax strategy with our broader CFO, business advisory, IT and transactional services. This isn’t a maintenance role, it’s a build, lead, and elevate role.
We are looking for a Tax Director who is excited to shape the tax function of a firm that is doubling in capabilities, expanding into new verticals, and preparing for future-scale growth.
If you’re a senior manager or principal-level tax professional who wants to escape the assembly-line feel of larger firms and step into a high-impact leadership role, this is the opportunity.
The GAPC Advantage
As Tax Director, you will:
- Build a modern tax practice - You will design structure, standards, processes, and client experience from a clean foundation as we scale strategically.
- Be part of an integrated advisory platform - You will work hand-in-hand with our CFO advisory, M&A, valuation, legal affiliates, and strategic planning teams.
- Become a key partner to fast-growing, entrepreneurial clients - Our clients look to us as full-spectrum advisors, not just annual preparers.
- Grow into a larger leadership role as the firm expands - This position is structured to scale in responsibility and influence as GAPC continues to grow, with increasing leadership authority, strategic involvement, and firmwide impact over time.

Client Advisory & Relationship Management
- Serve as primary tax advisor for high-growth entrepreneurial clients
- Provide tax planning, structuring, and optimization aligned with business goals
- Lead tax strategy for clients experiencing scaling, acquisitions, restructurings, and exits
- Work closely with GAPC’s CFO and M&A teams on transactions, modeling, and diligence
- Support specialized advisory areas (trusts & estates, entity structuring, multi-state issues)
Technical & Compliance Oversight
- Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns (individual, corporate, partnership)
- Oversee tax research and technical memorandums
- Monitor changes in tax law, proactively advising clients & firm leadership

- Strong technical review skills and ability to manage complex engagements
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship management
- CPA required
- Experience building or improving a tax function is a plus
Who Will Thrive in This Role
- Someone who wants to lead, not just execute
- Someone who feels under-leveraged or siloed in a larger firm
- Someone who enjoys entrepreneurial clients and fast-moving decision cycles
- Someone who wants to be part of building something ambitious — not just maintaining status quo
- Someone who sees tax strategy as part of the broader business strategy
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary with performance-based bonus.
- 401(k) plan and comprehensive benefits package.
- Vacation/PTO.
- Continuing professional education and development support.
