What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic and Planning Co-Op position at GAI Consultants Inc?
About This Position:
Co-Ops evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional types of plans, development of planning studies or reports, investigations, or surveys with relatively few complex features under the general guidance of a Project Planner/Engineer or Project Manager. This work is on small projects or portions of larger projects. Typical projects include traffic impact studies, traffic safety studies, traffic management for special events, multi-modal transportation planning (including work for local, county, regional, and state agencies, as well as transit authorities), support for highway, bridge, and traffic signal design, and public engagement in support of all project types mentioned above.
Essential Job Functions:
- Data collection in the field
- Perform specific portions of a broader assignment, assisting an experienced planner/engineer
- Perform standard computations or basic analysis
- Prepare drawings, sketches, and visual aids
- Assist in maintaining equipment inventory
- Perform design tasks
- Perform quantity estimates
- Attend project meetings with senior staff
- Responsible for writing report sections
- Responsible for basic QA/QC tasks; review of own work
- Assists at various meetings including public and client meetings
Job Requirements:
- Working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in related discipline such as civil engineering or planning from an ABET/EAC accredited program or an approved equivalent.
- Self-motivated and strong work ethic.
- Strong organizational skills required
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Word, Excel, Teams, Synchro, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) encouraged.
Pay Range:
- Albany, Poughkeepsie, Syracuse, White Plains, NY: $21/hour-$28/hour
- Pay will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and position location.
