Purpose Statement
The job of Custodian - Food Service is done for the purpose/s of providing custodial services at assigned cafeteria; ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; overseeing the preparation of cafeteria for campus events; supporting Cafeteria Manager and cafeteria staff in the completion of their duties. This job reports to Cafeteria Manager.
Essential Functions
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Clearances: IVP (Identity Verified Print) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Working Calendar Year: 180 Days
Salary: 16.00/Hr

Essential Functions
- Cleans inside and outside of cafeteria (e.g. tables, chairs, milk coolers, walk-in freezers, refrigerators, storage room, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Consults with Cafeteria Manager (e.g. supplies/food needed, work plans/assignments, etc.) for the purpose of planning, prioritizing and scheduling activities and achieving site objectives.
- Delivers a variety of items (e.g. janitorial supplies, condiments, food items, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials throughout the cafeterias. Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, identifying necessary repairs to facilities and/or equipment, etc.
- Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of custodial items required to properly maintain facilities in a healthy and safe manner.
- Monitors student behavior (e.g. during meals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student compliance with established guidelines, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and secure facility.
- Participates in meetings (e.g. unit meetings, in-service training, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. inventory and supply lists, refrigerator/freezer temperature logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Prepares cafeteria for daily operations (e.g. check milk/snack/supplies, pull out items to defrost, setup, First In/First Out (FIFO), etc.) for the purpose of ensuring food preparation can be started on time.
- Requisitions equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
- Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Secures cafeteria and kitchen (e.g. opens doors, checks furniture and lights, checks refrigerator/freezer temperature, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.
- Stocks snacks, condiments and supplies (e.g. throw away out-of-date food, move older items to front (FIFO), etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.
- Supports special events (e.g. move tables/chairs, clean before/after, etc.) for the purpose of completing site custodial activities.
