Position Summary
The Automated Welding Technician operates and programs automated welding equipment at pro beam USA, with a primary focus on advanced electron beam (EB) welding systems. This is a hands-on, shop-floor role for a mechanically curious individual who enjoys working directly with advanced machinery, learning new technology, and producing high-quality welds for high-stakes industries.
Because electron beam welding takes place inside a sealed vacuum chamber, you won't be holding a manual torch. Instead, you will act as the brain behind the machine—programming computer controls, setting parameters, and monitoring the automated process.
Key Responsibilities
- Precision Setup: Load custom parts into machinery, aligning and securing them perfectly using specialized fixtures. Set up, operate, and monitor automated welding systems and CNC equipment.
- Process & Programming Support: Use computer control panels to input and adjust automated machine cycles or basic G-code programming. Assist senior technical staff in developing and refining welding parameters (speed, power, inputs).
- Troubleshooting: Identify and report process deviations or equipment issues, participating actively in shop troubleshooting.
- Quality Execution & Documentation: Perform pre- and post-weld inspections using calipers, micrometers, and visual checks. Complete production records, traveler documents, and quality logs accurately and on time.
- Customer & Field Support: Support customer demonstrations and witness testing at our facility. Assist the field service team with equipment commissioning and customer training.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. (An Associate's degree, vocational/trade certification, or technical coursework is a plus).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience operating automated or CNC-controlled machinery (e.g., robotic welding lines, laser cutters, automated TIG/MIG setups, plasma arc systems, or advanced CNC mills/lathes) in a production environment.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and follow weld procedures, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Aptitude: Strong mechanical aptitude, comfort working with digital control screens, and extreme attention to detail/precision.
- Travel Flexibility: Occasional travel required (domestic and international, up to 2–3 weeks at a time) for technical training at their global facilities in Germany, customer site visits, or equipment commissioning.
- Legal: Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience operating electron beam welding systems (PTR, Sciaky, pro beam, or similar platforms).
- Familiarity with vacuum systems, high-voltage equipment, or industrial lasers.
- Exposure to weld quality inspection methods including visual, dye penetrant, or X-ray.
- Experience with quality documentation in an AS9100, NADCAP, or ISO 9001 environment.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a laboratory, machine shop, and light industrial environment (appropriate PPE provided).
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs and stand for extended periods during equipment operation.
Salary : $30 - $35
