Albany Area Project Architect

Municipal & Federal Projects | $85,000–$115,000 | Full-Time

We are leading a discreet exploration for a well-established interdisciplinary architecture and engineering business situated in a northern region near Albany, NY.

We are in need of an experienced Project Architect who is eager to take on more than just a limited production role. This position presents the chance to engage in the entire project cycle, assume more responsibility for projects, collaborate with various engineering fields, participate in project management, and guide junior team members.

The ideal candidate is a Licensed Architect, or an architect actively working toward licensure, with 5–10 years of diverse, hands-on experience in various project types and phases. The client is especially interested in applicants who possess strong technical skills and aspire to take on greater project leadership roles.

Duties

You will be part of a cooperative architecture and building systems team supporting a diverse mix of municipal and federal projects.

  • Oversee and lead architectural projects from initial planning through design and building
  • Produce architectural evaluations, facility surveys, feasibility analyses, and planning documents
  • Assess existing structures, document architectural statuses, and provide recommendations
  • Conduct building code assessments for new and existing facilities
  • Create architectural drawings, specifics, and construction plans
  • Utilize Revit and AutoCAD
  • Coordinate with structural, engineering, drafting, specialty consultant, and other project teams
  • Lead architectural efforts on interdisciplinary tasks as experience and project demands dictate
  • Assist with project scheduling, coordination, and supervision
  • Communicate effectively with project teammates, consultants, and concerned parties
  • Guide and mentor less experienced colleagues
  • Maintain active involvement in technical tasks and production while assuming more project responsibilities
  • Develop clear, professional technical reports and written records

This position merges technical architecture, project execution, multidisciplinary collaboration, and leadership expansion rather than concentrating solely on drafting or production.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Architecture
  • 5–10 years of pertinent architectural experience
  • Registered Architect credentials highly preferred
  • Candidates without licensure should be actively pursuing architectural exams and be nearing the completion of the licensure process
  • Varied, hands-on experience across multiple architectural project phases
  • Experience with assessments of existing buildings and feasibility studies
  • Familiarity with New York State building codes and statutes
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
  • Strong technical writing and documentation abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Capability to manage priorities across various projects and timelines
  • Ability to collaborate efficiently within multidisciplinary design squads
  • Interest in progressing to additional project management, project responsibilities, and mentoring duties
  • Authorization to work in the United States without employer assistance

The client prefers breadth of experience over years in the field alone. Architects with a well-rounded background in various project types, building systems, project phases, and roles will be especially competitive.

Advantages of this Role

  • Project responsibility: Assume significant project ownership instead of remaining a minor contributor within a large architecture unit
  • Career progression: Venture into project management, mentorship, and broader leadership duties
  • Project diversity: Engage in municipal and federal projects instead of focusing exclusively on one specific building type
  • Multidisciplinary support: Collaborate with architectural, engineering, structural, drafting, and other technical experts
  • Stable project foundation: Benefit from a mix of public-sector tasks and federal project prospects
  • Visible contribution: Join a smaller architecture team where a seasoned architect can swiftly and effectively contribute
  • Professional growth: Continue advancing technical, leadership, and project management skills

The client seeks an individual who can maintain technical involvement while gradually taking on more project ownership and aiding in the growth of other team members.

Compensation

Base Salary: $85,000–$115,000

Compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, licensure status, technical proficiency, breadth of project experience, and overall suitability.

The client is willing to discuss a salary exceeding $115,000 for an exceptionally qualified candidate. Compensation will be assessed on an individual basis rather than strictly based on years of experience.

A sign-on bonus may be negotiable based on the candidate’s profile and situation, including candidates relocating to the Capital Region.

Benefits

The client provides an extensive benefits package that features:

  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Various medical insurance options
  • Health Savings Account possibilities
  • Dental and vision coverage
