The Director of Asset Protection & Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading company-wide strategies and programs that safeguard company assets, reduce shrink, and ensure the safety and security of associates, customers, and company property. This leader oversees asset protection operations across a multi-store region or chain, partnering closely with Operations, Store Leadership, HR, Legal, and Supply Chain to drive results in an off-price retail environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute asset protection and safety strategies that support company financial goals, shrink reduction targets, and a safe working environment.
- Lead, coach, and develop an AP field team (e.g., Regional AP Managers, Store AP Teams) to ensure consistent standards and accountability.
- Establish department KPIs and produce regular reporting to leadership on performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyze shrink data, audit results, and business performance to identify trends and implement action plans.
- Partner with Store Operations to reinforce adherence to physical inventory program, receiving/processing standards, and merchandise protection protocols.
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure stores operate with effective operational controls and adherence to company policies.
- Own the company’s safety programs and ensure compliance with OSHA, local regulations, and internal health and safety standards.
- Lead investigation and reporting protocols for all workplace injuries, safety incidents, and environmental issues.
- Implement training programs that promote safe behavior, accident prevention, and emergency preparedness.
- Direct internal and external theft investigations in partnership with HR and Law Enforcement.
- Provide oversight on surveillance systems, technology deployment, alarm compliance, and physical security controls.
- Ensure consistent documentation practices to support legal and corrective actions.
- Build strong relationships across Store Operations, Distribution Centers, Human Resources, and Legal teams.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on loss prevention, asset protection, and safety best practices.
- Communicate expectations clearly and provide training that equips field and store teams to prevent loss and promote safety.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Criminal Justice, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 7 years of progressive leadership experience in Asset Protection / Loss Prevention within multi-unit retail; off-price retail experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven success in shrink reduction, safety program implementation, investigations, and team leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to use data to influence and drive results.
- Excellent communication, leadership presence, and relationship-building capabilities.
- Ability to travel 50–70% as needed to stores, distribution centers, and field meetings.
Supervision:
Supervises Loss Prevention team.
