Position Overview
G2IS is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst to support the USGS Western Region Databases and Information Analysis Project (WR DIA).
This role focuses on developing, analyzing, and managing geoscience data to support scientific research and publication efforts. The position is primarily remote but requires occasional onsite work in Spokane, Washington.
Key Responsibilities
Develop procedures and methodologies for analyzing digital geoscience data (vector, raster, and imagery).
Support scientific staff in applying GIS tools to project work.
Create and maintain geoscience and mineral resource databases.
Produce high-quality GIS maps, illustrations, and publication-ready materials.
Write and contribute to technical reports.
Assist with acquisition, maintenance, and utilization of digital geologic data.
Perform GIS-related tasks as directed by the USGS project leadership.
Ensure all deliverables meet project and quality standards.
Required QualificationsTechnical Skills & Experience
Proficiency with ArcGIS (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro).
Experience with ArcGIS extensions (e.g., Spatial Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, Image Analysis).
Strong understanding of coordinate systems and map projections.
Experience using georeferencing tools and GIS editing tools.
Familiarity with Windows 10 environment.
Ability to operate large and small format scanners.
Minimum 5 years of experience in:
Georeferencing analog geologic maps using multiple methods.
Interpreting geologic and mineral resource data (rock types, structures, anomalies, etc.).
Creating and managing geologic databases from scientific literature and reports.
Analyzing aerial and satellite imagery for geological applications.
Evaluating mineral deposits (grade, tonnage, type, location) using GIS and Excel.
Producing geological illustrations (maps, cross-sections, schematics) to publication standards.
Creating and maintaining FGDC-compliant metadata.
Using GIS in geologic and mineral resource studies for database development and publication.
Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Additional Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a federal security clearance.

Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
