About G-Star Telecom

G-Star Telecom is a veteran-owned federal systems integrator headquartered in Charlotte, NC with a federal operations office in Bowie, MD. For more than ten years we have designed, installed and maintained audio-visual and video conferencing systems for federal agencies nationwide — more than 1,000 conference rooms delivered and 500 active service locations. We hold a Top Secret facility clearance, ISO 9001:2015 certification, a GSA Multiple Award Schedule and a NASA SEWP VI contract. You will join a small, senior team where your work is visible to the customer every day.

The role

You are the resident video conferencing engineer at a cabinet-level federal civilian agency's Washington, DC headquarters and its New Carrollton, MD campus. This is a senior, multi-manufacturer seat: we are looking for a CTS-certified engineer who already holds base-level credentials across most of Crestron, Q-SYS, HP/Poly, Cisco, AMX and Extron and wants to complete the set on our account. You keep executive and operations-center conference rooms working, manage the agency's Poly video infrastructure from a Government-furnished workstation, and are the person agency staff see when a room has to work right now.

What you will do

  • Provide daily on-site Tier 1–2 support for Poly Studio X30/X50/X52/X70/X72, Poly G7500 and G62, Poly TC8/TC10 controllers and Microsoft Teams Rooms in executive suites, conference rooms and emergency operations centers
  • Administer Poly Clariti (call control, registration, provisioning) and Poly Lens device management from a Government-furnished laptop; manage firmware, certificates and device health
  • Receive end-user requests through our service desk portal (Zendesk), acknowledge within 30 minutes, resolve or escalate, and document every ticket to closure
  • Support live executive meetings and video calls: pre-meeting checks, bridge and call setup, in-meeting support, post-meeting follow-up
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections, keep the room and device inventory current, and record serial numbers, firmware and configuration baselines
  • Open and work OEM support cases and RMAs (HP/Poly, Crestron, Extron, QSC), coordinate advance replacements, and swap failed units
  • Coordinate with agency IT and network staff on VLANs, QoS, certificates and Teams tenant settings affecting room systems
  • Contribute to monthly service reports: ticket counts, response times, PM completion, inventory changes
  • Train agency users and local technical staff on room operation and basic troubleshooting
  • Serve as a point of escalation for the regional field team and share knowledge with the Bowie engineering group

Required qualifications

  • 5 years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise video conferencing and AV systems in a corporate or government environment
  • AVIXA CTS certification, current (CTS-I preferred)
  • Base-level manufacturer certification or completed manufacturer training in at least four of the following six, with the remaining two completed within 90 days of hire at company expense: Crestron (Technician or Core certification), QSC Q-SYS Level 1, HP/Poly (Poly Video Fundamentals or equivalent), Cisco (Webex Room devices / collaboration technician), AMX (ACE or NetLinx training), Extron (AV Associate)
  • Working knowledge of Poly video endpoints (Studio X series, G7500) and at least one of: Poly Clariti, Poly Lens, RealPresence Resource Manager, or an equivalent Cisco/Zoom device-management platform
  • Microsoft Teams Rooms experience: Windows-based room systems, Teams admin center, device sign-in and peripheral troubleshooting
  • Fundamental network troubleshooting: IP addressing, VLANs, DNS, certificates, QoS as they affect video devices
  • Clear written communication; you will document tickets and write to Government staff daily
  • Able to work on site five days a week in Washington, DC and New Carrollton, MD and to travel between the two
  • Able to lift 50 lb and work on ladders for display and camera service
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status, and the ability to obtain and keep Government staff-like access (background investigation, fingerprinting, annual training) — a condition of employment

Preferred qualifications

  • AVIXA CTS or CTS-I; Poly Certified Video Engineer; Crestron DM-NVX or DMC-E-4K; Crestron Flex/Teams Rooms deployment; Q-SYS Level 1 or 2
  • Cisco CCNA or CCT Collaboration; Webex Control Hub administration
  • Extron Control Professional or AMX programming exposure
  • Prior federal contractor experience or an existing federal background investigation
  • ITIL Foundation or experience working to SLAs in a ticketing system
