What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Technician position at G & L Student Transportation?
Technicians directly support the technician in charge. They are responsible for maintenance and repairs of all vehicles. They strive to be proactive, not reactive, in identifying and communicating issues before they become catastrophes.
Specific shop technician responsibilities include the following:
- Diagnose and repair light repairs (driver complaints).
- Perform factory maintenance and light safety repairs.
- Repairs and coordinates the maintenance and repair of diesel engine systems
- Performs inspections ; annual maintenance, and LOF.
- Diagnose and Repair Light-Medium Engine, Drive Train, Suspension, Steering and Component Failures.
- Repair in Accordance with Factory Repair ; Time Guide
- Examples and maintains a positive, winning, attitude towards customers, fellow employees, and the public.
- Reports to the location lead auto technician.
Job Summary
Monday to Friday - No Weekends - No Evenings!!

Responsibilities and Duties
Performs preventative maintenance to fleet vehicles, primarily school buses with some transit vehicles.
Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs.
Test drives repaired equipment.
Maintains a safe, clean, productive and efficient work area.
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Be at least 18 years of age
Have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and have a CDL license
Own the recommended minimum Hand tools for a Diesel Technician
Subject to all required background checks; physicals and drug screen
Possess a combination of education and technical experience including a minimum of 4 years diesel service and fleet experience
ASE Diesel Certifications Strongly Preferred, or must be able/willing to obtain
High Value on Master Level Diesel Techs
