The GI 2 AI Foundation exists to help the military community (active-duty, veterans, and spouses) transition into high-demand, high-earning roles in tech, cyber, and AI.Through our Tech Warriors Fellowship, we:Connect the military community to industry-recognized tech and AI certificates,Provide coaching, career navigation, and wraparound support, andPartner with employers and training providers to create clear, realistic career pathways into the modern digital economy.We’re in an exciting build-and-scale phase and are now seeking a Part-Time Grant Writer to help us secure the funding needed to grow our Fellowship and serve more service members and families.Role OverviewThe Part-Time Grant Writer will be the lead architect and storyteller for our grant strategy.You will:Build and manage our grant pipeline (foundations, corporations, government, and local funding sources),Translate our theory of change, logic model, and program design into compelling proposals, andWork closely with leadership (our internal “A-Team”) to ensure proposals are fundable, realistic, and aligned with our budget and impact goals.This role is ideal for someone who:Has proven experience winning grants for nonprofits,Understands workforce development, education, or veteran/military programs, andEnjoys working with a lean, mission-driven startup nonprofit where your work has a direct, visible impact.Key Responsibilities1. Grant Strategy & Pipeline (A-Team: Strategy & CFFO lenses)Develop and maintain a 12–18 month grant calendar (deadlines, fit, ask amounts, and requirements).Research and prioritize foundations, corporate funders, and public agencies aligned with:Workforce developmentTech / cyber / AI trainingVeteran and military family supportDiversity, equity & inclusion in techRecommend go/no-go decisions for opportunities based on mission fit, competitiveness, and capacity.2. Prospect Research & Funders AlignmentConduct deep-dive research on priority funders: giving history, strategic priorities, average award sizes, and reporting expectations.Map our programs, outcomes, and geographic focus to funders’ interests and help refine “funder-ready” program language.Create concise funder briefs for leadership ahead of any calls or relationship-building meetings.3. Proposal Writing & Storytelling (Comms & Program lenses)Draft, edit, and submit letters of inquiry (LOIs), full proposals, and renewal requests.Tailor a core case statement and program narrative for GI 2 AI Foundation and the Tech Warriors Fellowship that can be adapted for multiple funders.Clearly articulate:Our problem statement (barriers facing transitioning service members & families),Our solution (Fellowship model, coaching, training, and employer linkages),Our theory of change & logic model (activities → outputs → outcomes → impact), andOur differentiators versus other veteran or tech programs.4. Budgets, Compliance & Reporting (Finance & Compliance lenses)Collaborate with leadership to build grant-specific budgets that align with our overall financial plan.Ensure proposals meet basic compliance requirements (allowable costs, matching funds, indirects, etc.).Draft or support interim and final reports, including gathering metrics, stories, and financials from our team.5. Systems, Templates & Knowledge ManagementCreate reusable templates:Organizational boilerplateProgram descriptionsStandard outcomes / metrics languageCommon attachments checklist (board list, org budget, 501(c)(3) letter, etc.).Maintain a simple grants tracker (e.g., in a spreadsheet or CRM) that includes:Opportunities researchedSubmissions madeStatus, decisions, and feedbackAward amounts and reporting dates.What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)By the end of your first year, success will look like:Pipeline & SubmissionsA clear grant calendar with prioritized opportunities and deadlines.8–15 high-quality submissions (LOIs and full proposals) to aligned funders.Funding & AwardsA target of $300,000–$550,000 in awarded grants (exact target to be finalized with you based on opportunity landscape and timing).Required Qualifications3 years of successful grant writing experience for nonprofits (education, workforce, or veteran/military focus strongly preferred).Demonstrated track record of securing 5-figure and/or 6-figure grants from foundations, corporations, or public agencies.Strong understanding of grant cycles, funder expectations, and reporting requirements.Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone and content for different funders.Ability to build clear, reasonable budgets and align them to program narratives.Comfort working in a lean, fast-moving environment where we’re still building systems as we go.Strong organizational skills: able to manage multiple deadlines, priorities, and moving parts with minimal oversight.Preferred / Nice-to-HaveExperience with veteran, military family, or DoD-adjacent programs.Familiarity with workforce development, apprenticeships, or tech/cyber/AI training.Experience with logic models, theories of change, and outcome frameworks.Familiarity with simple CRM or pipeline tools (e.g., Airtable, HubSpot, Excel/Google Sheets).Work Style & CultureRemote-first role; occasional meetings via Zoom.You’ll interact directly with leadership; your input on strategy and funder fit will be taken seriously.We value:Clarity over complexityIntegrity and transparency (especially around budgets and capacity)Mission-first thinking – doing what truly serves the military community we support.How to ApplyPlease submit:Resume and LinkedIn profileA brief statement of interest (2–3 paragraphs) describing:Your experience with grant writing,Types of organizations and funders you’ve worked with, andYour approximate win rate or total dollars raised.1–2 writing samples (can be redacted) such as:A funded proposal or LOI, orA strong case statement / program narrative.You may apply via ZipRecruiter or email your materials to:[Info@gi2ai.com / Application Instructions Here]
