Position Summary
The Regional School Security Officer (SSO) Supervisor is responsible for providing direct supervision, oversight, and support to School Security Officers (SSOs). This position monitors daily activities, reinforces Company policies and standards, conducts site visits, and supports training, recruitment, and program development. The Regional SSO Supervisor works closely with Company leadership, school personnel, and assigned SSOs to ensure effective and efficient security operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision & Operational Oversight
Provide direct supervision of SSOs within an assigned region by monitoring daily activities, reviewing Incident Reports and Weekly Activity Reports, and ensuring compliance with Company policy and standards. The assigned region is designated for span of control; however, the employee may be assigned duties, tasks, or responsibilities outside the designated geographic area, as operational needs require.
Consistently conduct job site visits to assess SSO performance and verify compliance with Company standards, client expectations, and program requirements.
Uphold and reinforce Company policies, procedures, and operational standards, including professionalism, conduct, accountability, and performance expectations.
Substitute for SSO personnel as necessary to maintain adequate coverage and, when doing so, perform all essential job functions of a School Security Officer, as defined in the SSO job description.
Maintain availability to work armed or unarmed assignments outside of regular business hours as operational needs require.
Employee Support & Development
Serve as an advocate and resource for SSOs by addressing concerns, providing resources, recommending training, and identifying equipment or policy needs that enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
Foster a positive team environment through leadership, mentoring, and employee development.
Provide input for the development of employee performance evaluations through objective, constructive feedback based on observations, report quality, attendance, and overall job performance.
Assist with the development, coordination, and delivery of in-service training for School Security Officers (SSOs), including collaboration with Company leadership in the development of training materials, lesson plans, and program content related to school security operations.
Program Development & Administrative Support
Support recruitment efforts by assisting with applicant screening, interviews, and hiring recommendations for SSO positions.
Assist in the review and development of SSO policies, procedures, and operational guidelines, including updates to the SSO Program and Operations Manual.
Relay concerns from school administrators or client representatives to Company leadership regarding personnel performance, site conditions, and operational needs.
Attend national or state conferences (e.g., NASRO, PASRO) to remain current on school safety and security best practices.
Serve in a liaison capacity by representing the Company professionally in interactions with school personnel, law enforcement, parents, and students.
Act on directives and assignments from Company Administration.
Utilize Company software systems (Microsoft Office, When I Work, Google Workspace, etc.) for scheduling, reporting, and communications.
Complete additional tasks and assignments as directed by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and/or Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in law enforcement, military service, or school security, with at least three (3) years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
Prior experience or demonstrated ability to supervise personnel and provide performance feedback based on work product and observations; experience conducting site visits, employee observations, and performance evaluations preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to enforce, Company policies and operational procedures in a consistent, professional, ethical, and lawful manner.
Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with school personnel, law enforcement, parents, students, and Company leadership.
Ability to assess operational needs and recommend training, equipment, or policy improvements.
Demonstrated ability to foster a team environment through leadership and employee development.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive employee, client, and operational matters appropriately.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), When I Work, Google Workspace, and other Company systems.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by operational needs.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required, with the ability to travel between multiple job sites.
Familiarity with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles; certification preferred.
Required Certifications & Education
Qualified as a School Security Guard under Act 67, or able to obtain certification upon hire.
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or a related field preferred.
