Join our team as a Publications Specialist (Magazine Editor) and support a federal transportation research center by owning the full lifecycle of a quarterly national research magazine. Hybrid: This full-time hybrid position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET (core hours fall within a 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. ET window), with up to 20% on-site at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, McLean, VA (or Dept of Transportation HQ in Washington, DC), for meetings and coordination as needed. Some travel within the continental U.S. may be required for conferences and events.

Responsibilities
- Manage the complete magazine production lifecycle from content intake to final distribution
- Track article versions and approvals across a multi-stakeholder review chain
- Provide high-level editorial support and coordinate promotional material development
- Serve as liaison between writing/author teams and layout/design teams
- Confirm compliance with GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and Section 508 accessibility standards
- Secure final sign-offs and manage distribution and archival requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or a closely related field
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible editorial and publication management experience
- Master's degree or equivalent advanced professional certification
- Proven track record overseeing production of a periodical, ideally a technical or specialty publication
