- Position is contingent upon contract award**
On-Site: This part-time on-site position will work 25 hours/week, Monday–Friday within core library hours of 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m at the NIST Research Library and Museum in Gaithersburg, MD.
Responsibilities
- Perform original and complex cataloging in MARC21 for materials across multiple languages and formats, applying cataloging metadata standards and emerging linked data standards
- Perform copy cataloging for newly acquired print and e-resources
- Assist in maintaining and operating the library's cloud-based ILS platform, including creating and editing bibliographic records
- Conduct quality control checks of bibliographic metadata records and digital objects
- Prepare digital objects (publications, image files) and related metadata for ingest into digital repositories
- Catalog and assign descriptive metadata to historical images, photographs, and archival materials
- Submit monthly activity and hours reports
Qualifications
- MLS from an accredited institution, or equivalent library experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in metadata work and technical services
- Demonstrated experience with Ex Libris Alma ILS
- Working knowledge and application of RDA, Bibframe, AACR2, and LCSH/LCNAH authority files
- Experience with MARC21, XML, and MARCXML metadata formats
- Experience with OCLC Records Manager/Connexion and MarcEdit
- Experience with OCLC WorldCat and WorldShare systems
- Experience with command-line/batch scripting, XSLT transformations, and regular expressions
- Prior original and copy cataloging experience beyond coursework
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Current knowledge of professional library theories, issues, and trends
- Strong independent problem-solving in cataloging contexts
