What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Tutor (TEAS Preparation - Nursing Pathway) position at FVI School of Nursing and Technology?
FVI School of Nursing and Technology is seeking a Math Tutor to provide in-person academic support to prospective nursing students preparing for the TEAS Exam.
Schedule:
Monday – Thursday
6:00 PM – 8:30 PM (In-Person, On Campus)
This role is focused on strengthening students’ foundational math skills, improving test readiness, and supporting successful entry into the nursing program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-person tutoring sessions focused on TEAS math preparation
- Break down math concepts into clear, practical, and easy-to-understand steps
- Identify student skill gaps and provide targeted remediation strategies
- Support students with practice problems, test-taking strategies, and time management techniques
- Assist in building student confidence, particularly for those with math anxiety
- Track student attendance and engagement (light documentation)
- Collaborate with Academic Leadership and/or the Success Coach on student progress
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
- Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience (academic or test prep preferred)
Strong knowledge of basic math, including:
- Fractions
- Ratios and proportions
- Percentages
- Basic algebra
- Word problems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with adult learners at varying skill levels
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience preparing students for the TEAS exam
- Experience working with nursing or allied health students
- Background in developmental math or academic remediation
- Familiarity with test-taking strategies and study skills coaching
- Experience using learning platforms such as Canvas or Zoom
