What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Team Member position at Fuzzy Space?
Production Team Member — Fuzzy Space
Location: Portland, Oregon
Position: Temp to start, Part-Time to Full-Time depending on skillset and fit
Production Team Member
Work Environment: In-person, hands-on studio work
About Fuzzy Space
Fuzzy Space is a creative tufting studio in Portland where people come to design and make their own rugs. We host public workshops, private events, birthdays, corporate team-building experiences, and other creative events.
Our studio has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, but behind the scenes, we work quickly and intentionally to make sure every class is prepared, every rug is finished well, and the studio is ready for the next group.
We’re looking for a Production Team Member who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in doing things correctly, and understands that a laid-back environment doesn’t mean a laid-back work ethic.
The Role
This is a hands-on production position responsible for preparing materials for upcoming classes, maintaining the studio, and finishing student rugs after workshops.
A large portion of the job involves repetitive production tasks. The right person will be someone who can settle into a workflow, stay focused, work efficiently without constant supervision, and maintain quality even when completing the same task repeatedly.
You’ll be an important part of what keeps Fuzzy Space running smoothly.
Huge plus if you have video/photography, social media knowledge, video editing, and long form content experience.
What You’ll Do
Class Preparation
- Stretch tufting cloth onto frames
- Trace student designs accurately onto canvas
- Organize and prepare frames for upcoming classes
- Prepare materials and supplies needed for workshops
- Reset workstations after class
- Make sure upcoming classes are completely prepared and ready on time
Rug Finishing
- Glue completed rugs
- Trim and clean up student projects
- Apply rug backing
- Shear and finish rug surfaces
- Perform final quality checks
- Organize finished rugs for customer pickup or fulfillment
- Photograph finished pieces
Studio Maintenance
- Sweep, vacuum, and clean production and classroom areas
- Keep tools, yarn, supplies, and workstations organized
- Break down and reset spaces after classes
- Restock materials as needed
- Notice what needs to be done and take care of it without waiting to be asked
Content & Creative — Huge PlusOur primary need is production, but Fuzzy Space is also a highly visual business. If you have creative content skills, there may be opportunities to help with:
- Photography and videography in the studio
- Capturing classes, finished rugs, student projects, and behind-the-scenes content
- Creating short-form content for Instagram, TikTok, Reels, and other platforms
- Video editing
- Social media content creation and planning
- Photographing finished work and studio events
- Developing longer-form video or written content
- Turning everyday studio moments into interesting, engaging content
Experience with photography, videography, social media, video editing, or long-form content creation is a huge plus, but it is not required.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll enjoy this job if you like working with your hands and find satisfaction in getting through a production list efficiently.
You must be comfortable with:
- Repetitive tasks
- Standing and working with your hands for extended periods
- Cleaning and maintaining a shared workspace
- Learning production processes and following them consistently
- Working independently once you’ve been trained
- Moving quickly when there is a deadline or class approaching
- Being held accountable for completing assigned work correctly and on time
We’re especially looking for someone who is a self-starter. If you finish your assigned task, we don’t want you waiting around for someone to tell you what to do next. Look around, check the production list, clean something, restock something, or ask what else needs to be completed.
Our Work Culture
Fuzzy Space is colorful, creative, casual, and fun. Music will be playing, large groups of people will be around, and the environment may feel laid-back.
The work itself is not.
Classes happen at specific times, customers are expecting their rugs, and other team members depend on production work being completed.
We expect everyone on the team to work with a sense of urgency, even when the studio isn’t visibly busy. Being relaxed and enjoying your coworkers is encouraged; moving slowly because the environment feels relaxed is not.
We care much more about someone being dependable, efficient, accountable, and willing to work than having previous tufting experience.
What Makes Someone Successful Here
A great Fuzzy Space Production Team Member:
- Shows up when scheduled and is ready to work. Flexible with scheduling, as we do not have traditional business hours
- Works at a steady, efficient pace
- Takes ownership of their responsibilities
- Doesn’t need constant reminders or supervision
- Pays attention to details
- Can repeat a task many times without letting quality slip
- Communicates when something isn’t going to be completed on time
- Accepts feedback and adjusts quickly
- Helps solve problems instead of ignoring them
- Notices what needs to be done
- Understands that cleaning and organization are part of the job—not something to do only when there’s nothing else happening
- Takes pride in leaving the studio better prepared than they found it
Experience
Previous experience with tufting is not required. We can teach you our process.
Experience in production, fabrication, art studios, print shops, woodworking, sewing/textiles, fulfillment, kitchens, warehouses, or other hands-on environments can be helpful.
More importantly, we’re looking for someone who is reliable, coachable, efficient, and genuinely comfortable doing repetitive hands-on work.
Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on position. You should be comfortable standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, bending and reaching, using hand tools, performing repetitive hand movements, and moving studio materials and supplies.
