Position Summary
The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) provides non-clinical, peer-based support to individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders, using lived recovery experience to mentor, advocate, and inspire long-term recovery. This role is in person and field-based, requiring regular community outreach to engage individuals, build referral relationships, and spread awareness of the services provided by Fusion.
The CRPA is a key member of a multidisciplinary treatment team and supports individuals in navigating recovery, accessing resources, and transitioning successfully into community living.
Key Essential Functions
Peer Support & Recovery Services
Promote coping skills and self-management strategies using recovery-oriented and trauma-informed principles.
Provide peer support and mentorship through non-clinical assistance to support long-term recovery.
Model recovery, provide encouragement, and offer companionship to individuals in the community.
Develop and support person-centered recovery and relapse prevention plans.
Assist individuals in transitioning between levels of care, including inpatient to outpatient, structured programs to independent living, and hospital or justice-involved settings to community-based supports.
Provide crisis management and pre-crisis support as needed.
Community Outreach & Engagement
Conduct active community outreach in the field, engaging individuals where they are and spreading awareness of Fusion’s programs and services.
Maintain current referral relationships and identify opportunities to develop new partnerships.
Contact potential referral sources to establish and strengthen community relationships.
Participate in outreach activities including tabling events and community engagement initiatives.
Raise awareness of recovery pathways and local resources, helping individuals overcome barriers to care.
Care Coordination & Advocacy
Assist individuals with linkage to housing, financial assistance, counseling, self-help groups, medical care, and other community services.
Support individuals with scheduling appointments, transportation coordination, and accompaniment to appointments when appropriate.
Advocate for client needs while ensuring rights and confidentiality are protected.
Team Collaboration & Documentation
Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and community professionals regarding client progress and concerns.
Complete timely and accurate documentation of all client encounters.
Attend staff meetings, case conferences, trainings, and professional development sessions as required.
Complete all required agency and certification trainings.
Perform administrative duties and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director.
Requirements
High School Diploma required
Valid NYS CRPA or CRPA-P certification
Minimum of 1 year of experience in an OASAS program
Ability to maintain professionalism in challenging situations
Strong teamwork skills in a culturally diverse environment
Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and work under pressure
Willingness and ability to work extensively in the community and in the field
