Job Details

Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Laboratory Manager for a 13 week travel assignment in Franklin, Virginia. Required Qualifications

  • One year of recent experience as a Laboratory Manager
  • Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications
  • Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
  • Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position

Summary

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the laboratory, ensuring quality testing, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow. This role involves managing staff, developing policies and procedures, allocating resources, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Essential Work Functions

  • Provide leadership, training, and guidance to laboratory staff promoting a productive and supportive work environment
  • Address personnel matters, including performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs to maintain high standards
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP, COLA, Joint Commission)
  • Oversee laboratory safety protocols, ensuring a secure environment free from chemical, biological, and physical hazards
  • Manage laboratory resources, including inventory control, supply procurement, and budgeting to support operations
  • Monitor and evaluate laboratory testing accuracy, quality control, and instrument maintenance
  • Collaborate with physicians, healthcare teams, and administration to enhance laboratory services and patient care
  • Ensure laboratory personnel are properly trained and maintain competency in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Represent the laboratory in audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards

Required Essential Skills

  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is required
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
  • Interpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
  • Technical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.
  • Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
  • Sensory - Visual acuity, ability to effectively communicate.
