Role Description The Director of Systems and Networks is a full-time, on-site role based in Greenville, SC, responsible for overseeing the university’s core IT infrastructure and network operations. This role leads the planning, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise systems, servers, and network services to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing technology environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing wireless and wired networks, coordinating system upgrades, monitoring performance and security, and directing incident response and problem resolution. The Director collaborates with campus stakeholders to align technology initiatives with institutional goals, supervises technical staff, and manages vendor relationships and technology projects. The position also involves developing policies, standards, and documentation to support resilience, compliance, and continuous improvement of Furman’s IT environment.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong networking skills, including experience with wired and Wireless Networking technologies and network security best practices.
- Candidates should possess skills in Infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance for servers, storage, and cloud or hybrid environments.
- Candidates should possess Networking and Infrastructure project experience, including Project Management capabilities for planning, executing, and delivering technical initiatives.
- Candidates should possess leadership and communication skills to guide technical teams, collaborate with campus partners, and manage vendor relationships.
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CCNP, CISSP, PMP) are beneficial.
- Experience in higher education or complex enterprise environments, with a track record of improving system reliability, scalability, and security.
