POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an energetic, organized, and customer-focused Kids Gym Manager to oversee the daily operations of a boutique children’s gym in NYC. This role blends operations management, customer experience, staff leadership and hands-on program delivery. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring an exceptional experience for families while maintaining a safe, clean and engaging environment for children.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and families, thrives in a hands-on small business environment and is comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with leading classes and camps on the gym floor.
This role also includes overseeing alternative preschool programs, after-school enrichment programs, and holiday and summer camps, with a focus on boosting registration, program quality and client retention.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Gym Operations:
- Oversee the daily operations of the gym, ensuring programs run smoothly and efficiently
- Open and close the facility (Monday through Friday)
- Maintain a safe, organized and clean environment for children, families and staff (lobby, classrooms, gym and bathrooms)
Client Experience
- Welcome families, kids and their adults into the space
- Manage check in and check out procedures
- Answer phone calls and direct clients to the right resources
- Support membership growth and retention initiatives
- Handle customer feedback and resolve issues promptly and professionally, alerting management when necessary
Programming & Instruction
- Lead kids gym classes, camps, alternative-preschool and after-school programs
- Ensure programming is fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate
- Help design and improve class formats, seasonal programs, and alternative preschool curriculum
- Oversee holiday and summer camps, ensuring high enrollment and quality programming
- Train staff to deliver high-quality instruction across all programs
Staff Management
- Work directly with management to assist with staffing needs (recruiting, training and managing)
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback and performance oversight to management (you are the eyes on the ground!)
- Ensure proper staff coverage for all programs and events
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture
Facility Maintenance & Cleanliness
- Maintain daily cleaning protocols for equipment, gym, classrooms and common spaces
- Ensure the studio is presentable and organized at all times
- Alert management if more cleaning supplies are needed (toilet paper, office materials, etc.)
- Must be ok vacuuming and light cleaning around the facility
Administrative & Business Support
- Work directly with ownership/management on studio performance and growth
- Help implement marketing initiatives and promotions
- Create and distribute weekly newsletters to families to share updates, schedules, events and program highlights
- Lightly post on social media accounts with program pictures, schedules and upcoming events
- Manage inventory for merchandise or retail items
- Provide feedback on improving gym operations
SCHEDULE
- March 15 – September 15: Monday through Friday
- September 16 – March 14: Four weekdays one weekend day (specific days to be discussed and mutually agreed upon)
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2–4 years of experience in kids gym management, childcare, education, or hospitality
- Experience working with children and families
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities
- Highly organized with strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable leading group activities or classes for children
- Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings
- Experience using online tools like Canva, Constant Contact, and social media platforms to create newsletters, marketing materials and promote programs/enrollment
- Flexible and team-focused: willing to do all tasks, from teaching classes to cleaning and administrative work, with a hands-on, no-ego attitude
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred:
- Background in early childhood education, youth fitness, gymnastics or recreation
- Experience managing a small team
- Familiarity with scheduling or membership software and comfortable using online systems
- Ability to use email and phones as communication methods with staff, management and clients
