What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: ESL Teacher: Help Solve The Literacy Crisis position at FUNetix 12 Hour Reading App - Its FREE, Its EASY, Its FUN?
FUNetix is a patented, science-based, and incredibly simplified way of teaching reading to children that's available to parents and children anywhere in the United States and anywhere in the world. The FUNetix 12 hours Reading App is available in the App Store, Google Play store and Amazon App store.
FUNetix is 19-years-new, but in some ways, it is more than 2,000 years old.
Indeed, the patented FUNetix Reading Decoding System is rooted in an ancient methodology that shows readers how to see the hidden sounds in every word.
FUNetix earned its patent by borrowing the time-tested method called "diacritics" (which was developed more than 2,000 years ago by the Greeks, and adopted more than 1,000 years ago by the Hebrew and Arabic languages, to teach ALL children how to read those languages), and uniquely, completely and systematically applying it to English in a child-friendly and simple way.
FUNetix teaches children how to "map" or "marry" all 44 sounds of the English language to the letters and letter combinations that make up English words. This mapping (made easy by diacritics) takes all of the guesswork out of "sounding out" words.

Have you ever wanted to do something AMAZING to change the world but didn't know where to start?
Here is an opportunity to join the American Youth Literacy Foundation, an all- volunteer 501 c 3 charitable non-profit organization, founded in 2008 and dedicated to providing a gateway to a future in which all children, in every classroom in America, learn how to read by the end of 3rd grade. Our mission is to save millions of children from a lifetime of illiteracy and bring about true educational parity in just a few years’ time by deploying the FUNetix(r) 12 Hour Reading App(tm) nationwide.
With the FUNetix app, which is 100% free to download and use, any child can learn how to read in just 12 hours of total play time; and in America’s public schools today, there are millions of children who can’t read or are struggling with reading, which has led to more than 10 million illiterate high school dropouts over the past 20 years. But it doesn’t have to be this way!
We started in 2008 by taking a groundbreaking, science-based curriculum and proving that it can scale to reach and help thousands of children. Then, in 2020, during the pandemic, we created an app, based on our now patented reading curriculum, that takes kids from the ABC's to a 2nd grade reading level through an amazing journey that's fully narrated and tastefully animated, and gamified, just enough, to create an immersive, interactive environment that captures kids' attention and imagination and launches them to literacy in a fun and easy way.
For almost five years now, we have been delivering the app to children around the world. And now, the American Youth Literacy Foundation, dba FUNetix, is taking a step further in its engagement with English literacy by developing a new smartphone app projected to launch in 2028. The FUNetix ESL app!
This app will be designed to be the number one app in the world for teaching English to children, to include speaking, reading, writing, understanding and general proficiency to a 3rd grade level, within just 40 hours of total play time.
Right now, we are looking for Hispanic ESL teachers to be part of our paid research and development for the FUNetix(r) ESL app called 21ESL(tm). FUNetix Hispanic ESL teachers will use our alpha prototype 21ESL app, based largely on the FUNetix 12 Hour Reading App(tm) (available in the App Store and Google Play) to teach their Spanish speaking students how to read, write, speak and understand English. The Hispanic ESL teachers will work in partnership with the User eXperience (UX) ESL Team and our Project Manager.
Teachers will use the app as their template for teaching, but are encouraged to incorporate additional concepts and materials as they deem appropriate and necessary, throughout the teaching experience.
Teachers will use Google Meet to record all of the teaching sessions on video. A special compensation will be paid to both the teacher and the family of the student.
Hispanic ESL teachers must be native language speakers or have exceptional proficiency in Spanish. They will communicate in the student’s native language (Spanish) the majority of the time, and in English, only when appropriate. We are not researching "English only" / "full immersion" tutoring.
Teachers and families will be compensated for up to 12 hours of their time, regardless of how many modules of the 21ESL prototype app are completed.
We hope this opportunity finds you at the right place and the right time in your career to make a difference and an impact, in an amazing way, for millions of children who are waiting for someone, or something, to lead them out of a life of impoverishment and into a future of unlimited possibility and potential with English Language Liter
