Junior Credit Analyst

FundCanna
San Diego, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/20/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/15/2026

Status: Full-Time, Onsite in Solana Beach

General Summary:

FundCanna is seeking a highly driven individual with a strong interest in private credit/alternative lending and the cannabis industry. This is a credit operations and analyst-track role owning the execution of backend credit operations – including processing, funding, and post-funding compliance, while progressively developing underwriting judgment and analytical responsibility. The successful candidate will work independently as a key member of a small, high-performing credit team.

Major Responsibilities:

Credit Processing & Deal Execution

  • Manage inbound application and funding queues for both new & repeat business lines
  • Validate and populate data into CRM system (Salesforce)
  • Initiate API calls for credit, background, and bank data from various external vendors
  • Formulate initial stipulations and field requests from Sales department to usher files through deal pipeline
  • Maintain complete and audit-ready deal records and documentation

Funding & Operational Oversight

  • Facilitate due diligence at time of funding by verifying borrower information: government identification, cannabis license status, voided check and/or bank letter
  • Countersign funding agreement and ensure accuracy of contract details
  • Create repayment schedules and set up ACH disbursements/wire transfers

Post-Funding & Compliance

  • Assist in the filing of UCC, CAR and SAR reports

  • Perform routine AML and Global Sanctions (OFAC) record searches to onboard strategic partner and broker accounts

Credit & Analytical Development

  • Alert underwriting team of potential flags, acting as first line of defense against credit risk
  • Participate in credit discussions and deal structuring conversations
  • Develop familiarity with internal credit policy, underwriting rules, and risk evaluation frameworks
  • Progress toward limited approval authority and increased credit responsibilities over time

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field, and/or 1-3 years of relevant experience in lending, banking, financial services, underwriting support, or operations. Early-career candidates with strong analytical aptitude are encouraged to apply.

Drive & Ambition

  • Genuine curiosity about credit risk. Seeks to learn and grow by asking what, why, and how.
  • Actively strives to expand scope and responsibility without being asked.

Intellect & Analytical Wiring

  • Exercises sound judgment with incomplete or ambiguous data.
  • Connects dots across disparate data points (financial, behavioral, industry-specific) to paint a coherent picture.
  • Reads between the numbers and recognizes patterns.

Work Ethic and Accountability

  • Owns outcomes, not just tasks. Catches clerical & other errors before others, preventing issues from magnifying.
  • Thrives under pressure without quality degrading.
  • Doesn’t wait to be asked and communicates proactively when something is off.

Growth Opportunity

This role is intentionally structured as a development position with a path toward:

  • Expanded analytical responsibilities
  • Independent deal review
  • Initial/limited signing authority
  • Full Credit Analyst progression based on performance

Industry Environment

This role supports funding to highly regulated cannabis and ancillary business and offers unique exposure to alternative lending, fin-tech, regulatory complexity, novel credit data and risk attributes, policy development and more.
