Work to Protect Michigan’s Parks and Wildlife in Our Canvassing and Field Manager Positions

Our state parks are where we go to hike, camp, and fish, and where wildlife find refuge. But after years of underfunding, they are starting to fall apart – many roads, trails, and fishing piers are in need of repair. With 38 million visitors each year, we’re loving our parks to death.

Environment Michigan is urging state leaders to increase support for our state parks. We’re hiring canvassers and field managers in our Ann Arbor office to educate the public about this issue, raise critical funds, and generate the visibility necessary to influence local decision-makers.

As a canvasser this summer you will:

• Educate and engage citizens on a campaign to make real change on pressing environmental and public interest issues
• Develop essential communication and political advocacy skills
• Build membership and raise money for nonprofit groups in your community
• Earn leadership opportunities, supervising and managing staff in the field
• Gain the experience and connections needed to launch your career in nonprofit and policy work

Pay:

Canvassing staff earn a base pay of $16.00 per hour, plus can earn 20% of what they raise over our minimum fundraising standard, giving staff the opportunity to earn more than $20 per hour. Staff never earn less than minimum wage for the hours that they work. Depending on performance and location, canvassers earn an average of between $16 to $21 per hour.
