Work to Reduce Food Waste in Our Canvassing and Field Manager Positions
Every year, over 900 thousand tons of food goes uneaten in our state. Much of it is sent to incinerators, or ends up in landfills. This food could feed the hungry or be turned into compost.
MASSPIRG is working to get the Department of Environmental Protection to set a goal of zero food waste by 2032. We are hiring canvassers and field managers in our Boston office to educate the public about the issue, raise critical funds, and generate the visibility necessary to influence decision-makers to take action on these problems.
As a canvasser you will:
- Educate and engage citizens on a campaign to make real change on pressing environmental and public interest issues
- Develop essential communication and political advocacy skills
- Build membership and raise money for nonprofit groups in your community
- Earn leadership opportunities, supervising and managing staff in the field
- Gain the experience and connections needed to launch your career in nonprofit and policy work

Pay:
Canvassing staff earn a base pay of $18.00 per hour, plus can earn 20% of what they raise over our minimum fundraising standard, giving staff the opportunity to earn more than $20.00 per hour. Staff never earn less than minimum wage for the hours that they work. Depending on performance and location, canvassers earn an average of between $18.00 to $22.00 per hour.
