About The Role:
The Youth Support Specialist will assist staff and partners to achieve overall program goals and ensure program activities are on track. They will provide administrative support, assist with program activities, serve as a point of contact for the program, monitor and respond to the program’s email account, and maintain program records.
About the Program:
The Office of Experiential Learning’s Youth Programs Unit seeks to employ a Youth Support Specialist. Through its Public Health Career Exploration Program (PHCE), the Youth Programs Unit offers NYC based youth early exposure to the public health field through partnerships with NYC youth centered programs, facilitated trainings and hands-on learning opportunities. The Youth Programs Unit also houses the Public Health in Action Program (PHIA). Through delivery of a school tailored curriculum, this program raises awareness of the field of public health, exposes students to public health initiatives in their communities and help them understand the skills and education needed to obtain full-time work in this field.
This position is grant funded until June 30, 2026. The selected candidate will primarily work at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s offices in Long Island City. The position requires about 25% field work; the selected candidate will be expected to travel throughout New York City.

Responsibilities:
- Work with the Youth Programs Manager to build partnerships with mentors in community-based organizations and NYC public high schools
- Conduct outreach to identify and partner with NYC based youth centered programs and NYC high schools
- Coordinate and attend high level planning meetings with internal and external stakeholders and send follow up items
- Assist with developing, reviewing and updating program materials such as program forms, data collection tools, program materials, weekly newsletters, spreadsheets, emails, training materials, exercises and school resources
- Facilitate the onboarding process for new interns and lead related document collection
- Organize age-appropriate public health and professional development curriculum for in person or virtual delivery
- Schedule check-in meetings and training dates
- Assist with tracking program milestones and participant timesheets
- Maintain program records, create and analyze training and program evaluations, and draft program reports
- Assist with coordinating the program’s closing ceremony and activities
- Assist with conducting presentations on public health topics
- Other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/organization.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years of relevant experience
- Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, remote communication and group facilitation skills
