Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma with vocational training required; supplemented by five years of experience in carpentry, electrical wiring, HVAC, electronic systems, plumbing, welding, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must be licensed or possess industrial and commercial certification in the assigned field and possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. Able to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and schematics helpful.

(ASSIGNMENT - LEAD PLUMBER)

Performs routine plumbing-related facility maintenance tasks daily. Oversees work progress and inspects completed assignments to ensure quality and compliance. Collaborates with team members to resolve complex issues and offers technical guidance as needed. Supports training efforts by instructing staff on operational procedures and proper equipment usage. Contributes to supervisory functions by reporting personnel concerns and offering input on disciplinary actions and performance evaluations. Installs, secures, and tests plumbing equipment to confirm proper functionality, then communicates results to the Trades Supervisor. Serves as acting Trades Supervisor during their absence.


Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to lead a team of skilled trades workers performing day-to-day maintenance of County buildings and facilities.
 
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers,  assists with complex/problem situations,  and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment; assists with supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations.
 
Completes daily facility maintenance tasks in an assigned field, such as carpentry, welding, HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing.
 
Places, installs, and tests equipment to ensure equipment is secure and functioning properly,  then reports to Trades Supervisor results; acts as Trades Supervisor in their absence.
 
Answers questions or help troubleshoot issues with customers and other departments.
 
Inspects systems and performs preventative maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, re-calibrating, and repairing, when needed.
 
Maintains team equipment to ensure staff has the necessary equipment to complete any job; acts as safety monitor on job sites for the team.
 
Ensures all work is completed properly and in a timely manner; notates work orders with details about how work was completed and materials used.
 
 
Additional Functions:

Collects quotes from outside vendors.
 
The use of large equipment, such as a bucket lift, may be necessary for certain jobs.

On-call work may be needed due to work schedules and demands of daily business.

May make recommendations to customers on what equipment may need to be procured.

Performs other related duties as required.

Team Cohesion and Communication:  communicates tasks, expectations, and safety requirements to crew members; coordinates with electricians, HVAC technicians, carpenters, and supervisors; provides updates to building occupants, management, and maintenance leadership

Safety and Risk Awareness:  recognizes risks such as pressure buildup, contamination, or structural instability; ensures all work meets plumbing codes, OSHA standards, and facility policies; applies proper isolation protocols before working on pressurized systems; leads containment and shutdown procedures during major system failures

Technical and Equipment Proficiency: understands water distribution, drainage, venting, and backflow prevention; proficient with augers, jetters, pipe threaders, soldering tools, and diagnostic equipment; performs and oversees complex system installations and repairs; conducts inspections, identifies wear patterns, and schedules corrective actions
