UNCLASSIFIED POSITION IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENTPOSITION IS LOCATED AT 11575 MAXWELL ROAD, ALPHARETTA, GA Key Responsibilities: Provides engineering oversight for water resources construction projects, including associated communication, reporting, and administrative tasks.Performs supervisory responsibilities, quality control, and light data management, and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as needed.Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; supplemented by five years of engineering design of water & wastewater infrastructure experience and three years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must obtain licenses as a Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia within twelve (12) months of hire. Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.Examination: The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. Purpose of Classification: The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to managing special design projects for assigned departments. Responsibilities include managing assigned engineering and paraprofessional staff, overseeing and coordinating projects involving multiple departments or jurisdictions, and providing direction for various construction and maintenance projects. The Senior Professional Engineer oversees and coordinates construction, maintenance, and design projects with County-wide impact in addition to managing assigned staff, plans in addition to supervising assigned staff as required. Incumbent in this class serves as a fully licensed Professional Engineer. This series is distinguished from the Construction Management series by the degree of emphasis placed on performing engineering design versus construction oversight.Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Manages and supervises a staff (Professional Engineers, Project/Construction Manager) and provides technical direction to them. Establishes workload; prioritizes assignments; develops, interprets and enforces policies and procedures.Oversees and supervises construction and maintenance work for the projects. Provides, oversees and reviews designs of water & wastewater infrastructure improvements supporting the CIP Program. Makes decisions resolving construction related issues.Manages, reviews reports and approves design projects from the Engineering Consultation Staff. Manages and oversees special projects from other departments and municipalities. Ensures the design policies and procedures are implemented according to design codes and specifications.Reviews Georgia State DOT and other entities' road improvement project plans. Performs utility relocation designs; implements utility relocations and ensures utility conflicts are resolved. Prepares Memorandum of Understanding and Contract Items Agreement for all projects. Coordinates and communicates with all utilities, municipalities and stakeholdersrelated to the projects.Develops and designs various engineering concepts criteria and scope of work. Performs engineering designs, prepares cost estimates, budgets, bid documents, MOU, agenda items, petitions and conceptual plans for the Board of Commissioners approval.Provides a variety of customer service and technical information on projects through public meetings, coordination with municipalities and contact with the general public.
