Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field; supplemented by four (4) years of experience in Database Administration, Performance Tuning and Optimization, backups, restores and recovery models, implementing operational automation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license or proof of mobility equivalent may be requested.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in database concepts, Sequel Query Language (SQL), data modeling concepts, experience with modern Database such as MS SQL*Server or Oracle and knowledge of Oracle databases and application servers. Database performance training, Database High Availability, Database Backup and recover, strong communication and collaboration skills, attention to detail and team work. Analytical and problem-solving ability. Knowledge of High availability options and strong communication and collaboration skills.

A Database Administrator Senior administers relational databases, installing databases and application software and configuring of that database software, assigning database storage space to users, troubleshooting database and configuration problems, and providing lead direction to assigned staff. Establishes technical standards and guidelines for the effective use of databases, ensuring high availability, performance and reliability. Designs appropriate database solutions according to the needs of the applications residing on that database.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Develop plans and requirements for new systems and enhancements. Translates requirements into physical database structures. Develop, design and review data models in conjunction with application development teams.
Monitor the state of county databases for optimal performance and reliability. Implements efficiency improvements where needed and adjusts resource usage accordingly.
Protect data from hardware, software and human failure. Work with Disaster Recovery manager to design, implement and test disaster-recovery procedures and policies. Implement High-Availability solutions to reduce outages. Work with storage management team to design and test database backups.
Assign users to database sources and determine appropriate levels of data access to said databases. Ensure data security through standard server and database security best practices.
Mentor, train and oversee junior staff on project implementations. Maintain and update documentation as it relates to organizational databases/changes/upgrades. Document lessons learned and process improvement scenarios.
Maintains database documentation: writes and updates processes and procedures regarding, database function, changes and upgrades; documents lessons learned and process improvement scenarios.
Develop plans and requirements for new systems and enhancements: translates requirements into physical database structures; develops, designs and reviews data models; consults with application development teams; performs routine audits of database inventory ; surveys and audits the enterprise network; meets with users and project managers to gather requirements for new systems and projects; coordinates with infrastructure technicians to monitor and adjust storage and infrastructure related resources.
Monitors the state of County databases: evaluates performance, reliability of databases; runs scripts to capture database bottlenecks, and poorly performing reports and queries; runs scripts to optimize indexes and check database integrity; implements efficiency improvements where needed; adjusts resource usage accordingly.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including server alerts, server infrastructure diagrams, and technical guides and manuals; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including inventory reports, diagnostic performance reports, server trace reports; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Operates or uses various equipment and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains servers, switches and other power or motorized equipment; operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Communicates with County officials, supervisor, other employees, third party service contractors, laborers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
