Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Special Education Teacher (MOID) based in Milton, GA. The teacher will be responsible for creating and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, delivering specialized instruction tailored to each student’s needs, and collaborating with colleagues, families, and support staff. Additional tasks include monitoring student progress, fostering an inclusive classroom environment, and ensuring compliance with all applicable educational regulations and standards.
Qualifications
- Expertise in working with students with disabilities and knowledge of diverse learning needs
- Strong skills in teaching and instruction, particularly in a middle school and/or special education environment
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, families, and team members
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable state and federal special education regulations
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; a valid teaching certification in Special Education required
- Patience, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment
- Prior experience teaching students with significant cognitive disabilities (MOID) is highly preferred
Essential Duties
- Develops or selects and modifies lessons and materials to meet individual student needs
- Utilizes special methodology for instruction to support student progress using GPS standards
- Develops, implements, monitors, and reviews the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each student on the caseload
- Addresses the unique needs students in caseload, i.e., lifting and positioning moderately intellectually disabled, orthopedically impaired, severely and profoundly disabled students or signing for deaf/hard of hearing students
- Administers evaluations of student progress on an on-going basis and maintains appropriate records
- Follows due process procedures for all referred and eligible students with disabilities
- Meets expectations according to the general education teacher job description
- Works with parents/guardians in all aspects of the student’s educational program
- Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
- Uses technology to support instruction
- Serves as a resource to general education faculty, administrators, and related services personnel
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Certification/Licensure
- Valid Georgia Teacher Certification for area of specialization required
