Position Profile

Fuller Theological Seminary invites candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position as the Geoffrey Bromiley Professor of Church History, beginning with the 2026 Fall Term. 

The successful candidate will be a full-time faculty member in the School of Mission and Theology, an established scholar-teacher, with an ongoing record of significant contribution to an area of scholarship in church history or historical theology. Fuller is a multi-denominational seminary and seeks candidates who share its mission and commitment to training men and women for the various leadership roles in the church and the academy. 

Qualifications

• MDiv (or equivalent), PhD (or equivalent) in Church History or Historical Theology. 
• Area of specialization open, but preference is given to areas focusing on Fuller Seminary’s heritage (e.g., Reformation studies) and its varied commitments arising from that heritage (e.g., the diverse Protestant church in its global contexts, women in the history of the church, history of the evangelical movement). Must be able to teach historiography and historical methods.
• Proven record of effective teaching. The successful candidate will offer core and elective courses in the MA and MDiv programs, as well as leading ThM and PhD seminars and mentoring students in the School of Theology’s Center for Advanced Theological Studies and the Center for Missiological Research. 
• Proven record of research and publication, with ongoing research plans. 
• Have the personal, academic, and/or professional development to effectively serve the culturally, ethnically, racially, and theologically diverse student body of the seminary.

• Commitment to theological education in the service of the local and global church, to shaping leaders for the church’s mission and ministry, to the spiritual formation of students, and to supporting women and men in pastoral and other leadership positions. 
• Active involvement in a local congregation. 
• Disposition to work collegially in a diverse — multi-ethnic, multi-denominational, multiregional — seminary community. 
• Applicants who will add to the ethnic, racial, and gender diversity of the faculty are encouraged to apply. 

Rank and Other Considerations

• Tenure-track; initial three-year appointment. 
• Rank dependent on qualifications and experience; anticipated appointment at the rank of either Associate or (Full) Professor. 
• Twelve-month contract, including paid four-week summer leave. 
• Teach full-time, including online modalities. 
• Sabbatical quarter every seventh quarter upon approval. 
• Position is based primarily at the Pasadena campus 
• Date position available: 1 July 2026.

Pay Scale:

• Salary range the seminary expects to pay: $90,000 - $100,000 annually, USD
