GENERAL SUMMARY:
Oversees clinical operation and performance of clinical staff. Performs daily management duties of the clinical operation. Acts as nutritional consultant and resource to members of Health Care team. Provides comprehensive nutritional care assessment, counseling, education, and evaluation to patients, families, and associates. Conducts various education programs and seminars on nutritional topics. Assumes the responsibilities of Food Service Manager in their absence.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Oversees the administrative duties of the Clinical Nutrition staff.
· Provides nutrition expertise on all assigned hospital interdisciplinary committees.
· Collaborates in the hiring process for all clinical nutrition and diet office staff.
· Plans and facilitates orientation of new hires.
· Creates Clinical staff schedule.
· Plans, coordinates, and conducts Clinical and diet office staff meetings.
· Collaborates with Nutrition Services Manager to define performance expectations for staff; provides timely and constructive feedback.
· Formally reviews and evaluates staff performance.
· Performs chart audits and gives feedback as to findings to all clinical staff.
· Provides overall clinical dietetic services in accordance with all established hospital and regulatory agency policies, procedures, and professional standards.
· Interviews and assesses patients to develop appropriate nutritional care plans; counsels and educates patients/families on the diet ordered; documents dietary history, allergies, problems, nutritional care plan, and the like, on the patient’s medical record. Ensures diet received is consistent with care plan. Notifies physician or nursing of any discrepancies.
· Develops and conducts nutritional education programs for associates, visitors, and patients.
· Acts as nutritional consultant to members of health care team and participates in interdisciplinary activities/meetings when necessary. Attends staff meetings to update same on patient progress or issues.
· Conducts CQI activities related to area of specialization and meets all clinical CQI indicators for patient care.
· Responsible for achieving department budget goals for assigned area.
· Maintains awareness of current trends, reviews professional publications, attends seminars as applicable and maintains agreed upon number of continuing education credits per year.
· Enters on-line charges for patient care services; responsible for revenue reconciliation and charge-error correction as specified by department process, supporting hospital Revenue Policy.
· Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, the Integrity/ Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
· Uses Kronos, Performance Management and Taleo as required for role.
SPECIALIZED JOB DUTIES:
· Demonstrate a thorough understanding of department charges, charge order set(s), department CDM management, and charge capture processes (including crediting charges).
· Executes charge capture processes including charge reconciliation, monitoring, and reconciling gross charges daily and monthly, identify and investigate variances, and ensure resolution of issues.
· Must be proficient on the applicable software system(s) and how to access and retrieve reports.
· Obtain, review, and correct errors per error report(s) or upon request.
· Maintains monthly statistical information regarding number of consults conducted by clinical staff. UOS based on patient volume and acuity level.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics and completion of related dietetic internship or equivalent experience.
· 2 years of on-the-job experience; thorough knowledge and understanding of administrative expectations/duties and nutritional and therapeutic values of food, food production procedures, and general dietetic issues.
· Knowledge of and performance of administrative duties.
· Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to effectively interact with management and clinical staff, patients, families, and medical staff in completion of the above responsibilities.
· Analytical skill necessary to perform charges, monthly stats to maintain staffing levels/UOS and assess patient needs and evaluate patient progress.
· Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail up to 70 percent of work time, when performing chart audits, recording statistical information, billing and when counseling patients, charting, and performing like activities.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
· American Dietetic Association (ADA) registration and/or successful completion of registration exam within six months of hire date.
· Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the Henry Ford Health Customer Service Policy
· Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Normal attention to staff needs and normal patient care and office environment for up to 100 percent of work time with little exposure to noise, dust, temperature, and the like.
• Infrequent (less that 10 percent of work time) exposure to communicable diseases or infections when in patient care areas.
• Frequent movement from patient to patient for up to 80 percent of work time.
