Costume Technician Level 2
Overview:
The Costume Technician is a key member of the costume studio focusing on the production, integration and finishing of costume components. The Costume Technician is expected to be a well-rounded generalist and will be expected to train in and assist in all aspects of the department with expertise in hand-stitching and the use of both industrial and domestic sewing machines. This position requires strong skills in a wide range of costume construction techniques, problem-solving ability, and communication skills.
Reporting Structure:
The Costume Technician 2 will report directly to the Costume Studio Supervisor and the Pattern/Draper.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construct costume product using hand-sewing and both industrial and domestic sewing machines to a High-Quality standard.
- Basic pattern modifications, high accuracy in cutting of fabrics and materials.
- Achieve deadlines by working in both team and individual settings Independently
- Work with and around chemicals such as contact cement, epoxies, super glue, fabric dyes etc.
- Proper documentation of all aspects of the build process. Ensuring all steps of the process are photographed and catalogued.
- Adhere to company safety regulations, maintains a safe, healthy, and clean work /shop environment.
- Complete tasks at a consistent high quality within timelines set by supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet hard deadlines.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Costume Design, or a related field ( 3 years of equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in costume construction or a similar role in theatrical, theme park, cruise line or similar productions.
- Strong knowledge of costume construction techniques
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability based on production requirements.
- High attention to detail and quality control
- Effective in time management
- Experience with industrial and domestic sewing machines.
- Proficient in hand sewing techniques.
- High manual dexterity and hand eye coordination
- Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal
Physical Requirements/Environment:
- Moderate lifting or carrying 26 – 50 lbs.
- Intermittently sitting, standing, and stooping.
- Working at heights, ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Requires repeated reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction.
- Using equipment requiring high dexterity.
Pay and Benefit Structure:
- USD Hourly $20 to $22 per hour
- Payroll will be bi-weekly in arrears.
- All Full-time hourly Team Members are allotted 5 days of PTO per year, plus designated company holidays, paid. If a holiday falls on a production related workday or weekend, then an alternate date will be selected.
