The Opportunity
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of Fuel Solutions and serves as the visionary leader, operational strategist, and ambassador of the organization. This role is ideal for an innovative, mission-driven executive who can balance long-term strategy with hands-on execution and who is deeply committed to advancing the credit union movement.
You will guide Fuel Solutions' growth, forge powerful partnerships, and ensure the organization delivers measurable impact to credit unions, leagues, and the communities they serve.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Champion Fuel Solutions' mission, vision, and values while uniting stakeholders around shared goals.
- Partner with the Board of Directors to set strategic priorities, long-term goals, and outcomes.
- Anticipate trends in financial services, nonprofit leadership, and cooperative advocacy to position Fuel Solutions as an industry thought leader.
Program Development & Delivery
- Design and scale education, research, professional development, and community initiatives.
- Ensure all programs are mission-aligned, innovative, and outcomes-driven.
- Build collaborative partnerships with credit unions, league partners, regulators, academia, and philanthropic organizations.
Governance & Board Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Board, ensuring transparency, accountability, and strong governance.
- Provide data-driven recommendations for policy and strategy.
- Advance board development, diversity, and compliance with nonprofit regulations.
Financial & Operational Management
- Develop and manage an annual operating budget focused on growth and sustainability.
- Secure and diversify funding through grants, sponsorships, and mission-consistent revenue.
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and operational excellence.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy
- Act as a visible ambassador for Fuel Solutions and the broader credit union movement.
- Cultivate relationships with league leaders, regulators, and philanthropic partners.
- Lead branding, communications, and outreach to amplify organizational visibility and impact.
Team & Culture
- Recruit, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team.
- Foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, equity, and continuous improvement.
- Create leadership pipelines through internships, mentorship, and development programs.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 8–10 years of progressive leadership in a mission-driven nonprofit, association, or foundation.
- Experience with trade associations, credit unions, or cooperative organizations strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) governance and compliance.

Compensation
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Fuel Solutions uses regional market data to ensure equitable compensation across different cost-of-living areas.
The anticipated salary range for this role is $250,000-$400,000, depending on experience and location. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualification and cost-of-living in their primary work region.
