What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician position at Fu Lab, University of Rochester?
TWO positions available at Technician II or III levels.
Qualifications: The ideal applicant will have a BA, BS or MS in biology or biochemistry with strong laboratory experience in molecular and cell biology.
Research technician in a lab studying neurodevelopment and disease using human cells and mice. The technician will be an integral part of a research team. We seek highly motivated candidates who can work in the lab for at least 1 year and are seeking to gain research experience before graduate or medical school.
The technician is expected to carry out complex experiments and laboratory duties under supervision from the PI.
40% Manage and oversee day to day operations of the laboratory such as: ordering and stocking lab supplies; maintaining lab equipment; keeping and updating laboratory records and inventory; training of new lab personnel; maintaining lab adherence to all safety protocols; and ensuring compliance with federal and university regulations.
30% Takes a lead role in carrying out experiments involving: routine cell culture of human and mouse cells; standard biochemical and molecular biology techniques such as DNA cloning and plasmid preparation, RNA extraction, PCR and Northern blot analysis, protein analysis using immunoblotting, oversees mouse breeding and colony management.
30% Exercises independent judgment with delegated authority by the PI, develops experimental study protocols, performs downstream analysis and statistical reports based on experimental data.
