This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1)performing firefighting work that involves the use of firefighting and fire prevention techniques and methods such as performing search and rescue, operating hose lines and performing ventilation; 2) scheduling and/or conducting inspections, test and or preventive maintenance service on fire apparatus or firefighting equipment and 3) assisting in a fire prevention program, emergency medical technician program or hazardous material response program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense, International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application):
Fire Officer III
Fire Inspector II
Fire Instructor II and
Hazardous Materials Incident Command
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification at the Basic or higher level issued by the State of Illinois or National Registry. (You MUST submit a copy of your certification.)
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
