Position Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures. This role ensures the highest standards of infection prevention, patient safety, and quality assurance within the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC).

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Maintain an organized sterilization area, ensuring all tools are properly stored after sterilization
  • Conduct regular checks and maintenance of sterilization equipment to ensure optimal functionality
  • Document and log sterilization processes, including monitoring sterilization cycles
  • Monitor and educate staff on proper sterilization protocols and procedures to ensure safety and compliance
  • Adhere to all infection control policies and procedures, reporting any compliance issues to management
  • Maintain an organized and compliant sterile processing area in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Collaborate with clinical and surgical staff to ensure instrument availability and timely case turnover.
  • Monitor adherence to sterilization and infection prevention protocols; provide guidance to staff as needed.
  • Comply with OSHA, CDC, state, and facility of infection control policies and safety regulations.
  • Report compliance concerns, safety hazards, or equipment issues to management in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in ophthalmology and dental sterilization role is a plus but not mandatory
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety
  • Knowledge of sterilization methods, infection control principles, and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively within a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.

Schedule:

  • Typical schedule: Monday-Friday (with possibility of early morning start for first case). Weekends sometimes.

Ability to Commute:

  • Based in Brooklyn and able to commute to Flushing, Queens for training
