Finance and Accounting Analyst

Job Description

We are seeking a Finance & Accounting Analyst to join our growing finance team. This is a hybrid role based in either our Chicago, IL or Washington, DC office. This role combines accounting fundamentals with financial analysis, owning the firm’s invoicing and accounts receivable operations across all practice areas, client onboarding and offboarding, and the data that drives our revenue reporting. You will serve as the central point of contact for billing, keep revenue and client data accurate and reconciled across systems, and turn that data into insights for finance leadership. You will work closely with the Advisory, Licensing and Government Relations teams, as well as our outsourced finance partner (Consero) and clients, to keep the firm’s billing cycle and revenue reporting running smoothly.

This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and process-driven, and who thrives in a fast-paced advisory environment where accuracy, timeliness, and clear insight directly support the firm’s financial reporting.

Responsibilities

Invoicing

• Review and approve recurring monthly invoices across all practice areas to ensure accuracy and timely issuance.
• Coordinate with teams to obtain finalized hourly invoice data and submit to the billing team, with a focus on continuously improving turnaround time.
• Review and approve the interim staffing report; partner with Talent Resourcing to resolve missing or inaccurate contractor bill rates.
• Own end-to-end invoicing for project engagements, tracking milestone completion and ensuring billing is executed accordingly.
• Manage customer invoicing portal access, serving as the point of contact between Consero and clients to ensure invoices can be submitted through the appropriate portals.

Client Support

• Serve as the primary point of contact for all billing-related inquiries, responding to questions from Consero and clients regarding invoices and remittance details.
• Own the client onboarding process end to end, distributing onboarding forms to capture AR contact information.
• Coordinate with Consero and clients on any AR point-of-contact updates to ensure client information is always up to date.
• Maintain client relationships by providing timely, accurate, and professional billing support.
• Serve as the internal point of contact for related billing and AR questions.
• Manage the client offboarding process, ensuring all outstanding AR is dealt with on a timely basis.

AR Management

• Own the AR reconciliation process, including coordinating client follow-ups with relevant stakeholders, monitoring payment status, and communicating updates to the team on payments received and applied.
• Report on AR performance and surface any trends that may indicate risk, such as a client slowdown in payments.

Data Management & Revenue Reporting

• Own the data that drives the firm’s revenue reporting, keeping it clean, accurate, and reconciled across Salesforce, billing records, and tracking sheets.
• Update and maintain the work plans and revenue trackers for the firm, incorporating actuals so revenue estimates and work plans stay current.
• Verify client information and revenue recognition accuracy, flagging and resolving discrepancies.
• Prepare recurring revenue and AR reporting, including variance analysis against budget and work plans, with clear commentary on the key drivers.
• Analyze trends across billing, collections, and revenue, and surface insights and risks to finance leadership.

What We Are Looking For

Our ideal candidate is detail oriented, organized, and analytical, and who is comfortable owning a high-volume billing and receivables process and the revenue data behind it end to end. Strong communication skills, comfort working across multiple systems, and the ability to coordinate with internal teams, an outsourced finance partner, and clients are essential.

Skills & Qualifications

• 2 to 4 years of experience in accounts receivable, financial analysis, or a related finance function.
• Strong attention to detail and a track record of maintaining accurate, well-organized financial records.
• Solid foundation in accounting fundamentals, including revenue recognition concepts, reconciliations, and accruals.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze financial data, identify trends and variances, and translate findings into actionable insights for leadership.
• Proficiency with Salesforce or a comparable CRM, and comfort reconciling data between systems.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills including pivot tables, lookups, and other formulas, building and maintaining tracking sheets and reports from scratch, and validating data across sources.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently in a fast-paced environment, and comfort wearing multiple hats in a small firm.
• Experience working with an outsourced finance provider or shared services team is a plus.
• Familiarity with invoicing processes. Professional services, consulting, or financial services billing models is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
